My little take, at least so far is that I do adore the Metroid series, especially the Prime games, but feel it's time to move on. To what I not sure. I'm not necissarily saying I dont want a FPS (quite the contrary), but I do feel like its time to incorporate new elements into the series--a new direction.
I have hopes that this will be good for the series mainly because Yoshio Sakamoto, co-creator of Metroid series, is producer and lead scenario designer on it. But also working on the title (besides Team Ninja, who most of my concern center around depsite the fact that they're working on the programming and model work) are 3 designers from the Metroid GBA games--and they're handling the main design. Cool eh?
And then there is this:
Quote:
Yosuke Hayashi responded by stating that while the new game will feature heavy action-based sequences, there will still be the exploration-based sequences characteristic of other Metroid games. Yoshio Sakamoto confirmed that Other M will feature story progression in the same manner as Metroid Fusion. Sakamoto states at the end that the collaboration between Nintendo and Team Ninja is "unlike anything that's ever been done at Nintendo; it's more than just a collaborative effort -- it's one group working toward a common goal".

Personally, I thought that Super Metroid was the pinnacle of the series. It's not so much that the series degraded in quality, so much as they simply changed a bit. That's not always a bad thing. The shift to 3D most certainly could have been awkward, but it, surprisingly, was smooth. Metroid Prime was (and remains to this day) one of the few 'must-haves' for the Game Cube.
I was astounded by Prime 1, and while I really enjoyed Echoes, it just didn't have the same impact as the previous title. The Light-Dark mechanic was a bit shit to boot. Unfortunately, I haven't yet had the opportunity to play Corruption. When I do get a Wii, Metroid Prime Trilogy will most certainly be a Day 1 purchase.
This (Other M) is one on my radar. I am hopeful that we get a title built from the ground up for the Wii. I want some awesome control mechanic that just blows people out of the water. Team Ninja is an interesting choice for this. To say that I am curious about how they will interpret the Metroid universe would be the understatement of the century.
Thanks for link, btw.

The control scheme for Corruption was built from the ground up for the Wii and it's great. You will almost certainly love the trilogy when you get it.

BULLSHIT.
A gamecube game with wii aiming does not a wii-game make. Corruption proves solidly that accurate aiming in a game designed assuming your aim sucks makes no difference at all. The shots are entirely too slow for aim to matter one iota.
Corruption is the polar opposite of RE4. RE4 was built around your ability to aim, which sucked because of control pads until the wii port. Corruption is derived entirely from it's metroid prime roots, which accounted for the fact that you couldn't hit shit from day one. The end result is that suddenly being able to hit shit doesn't fucking matter, since the game isn't built in a way for it to matter.

Often had a hard time shooting things in Corruption ironically, I just couldn't see what I was shooting at because of a lack of central aim.
A new Metroid is always yay, and why am I the only one who liked Echoes best, hard as nails (boost guardian fu), great navigation-puzzles that didn't feel like puzzles, and terrific atmosphere.

Because Echoes was shite. Figures you'd like it.

Now take your everybody's opinion about the Spiderball Boss, and apply that to the entire game and you'll know how I feel about Echoes.
