They got banned for going online with leaked games in multiplayer before the games where official release date, in some cases by a week or more.
AFAIK the console is "ip banned", though it was an xbox tard who told me this so he is likely wrong or thinking of mac address or something. Regardless the system is almost useless once it gets banned (unless there is another method to undo the bann via even more flashing), my friend got banned in the morning and had a new xbox by the afternoon (fucking rich parents!)

He'd better register a new Gamertag, otherwise he might get his console blacklisted as well. Unmodded consoles that have gone with a previously banned Gamertag are being affected too. (We know how a lot of console kiddies love their gamerscore and achievements.)

Considering my Xbox 360 seems unable to connect to the internet (go high failure rate go) I guess I can mod it ALL I WANT.
