We've probably all heard the news by now. Supposedly they'll be gone in about a month and a half's time if they don't pull some cash together.
Some guy bought the controlling shares for $100,000 USD and immediately inherited $70,000,000 debt. Poor bastard.
I honestly can't remember the last Midway game that I bought, it may've been an N64 bargain bin title.

Ouch! However, it seems to me he knew what he was getting into; as an investor it's possible he plans to do something with his recent purchase.
But yeah Midway's been pretty irrelevant for years.

I was under the general impression he was doing it for some tax related reason.

Old news, but apparently Time Warner are in the process of buying out Midway.
Quote:
Under the agreement, Warner Bros. Entertainment would acquire substantially all of the Company's U.S. assets including its Mortal Kombat franchise and its development studios in Chicago and Seattle for a purchase price of $33,000,000, subject to adjustment as of the closing for changes in inventory, plus the agreed value of the Company's U.S. account receivables. The agreement does not include the Company's development studio in San Diego and the TNA franchise games, nor does it include the Company's development studio in Newcastle which had developed the Company's recently released Wheelman game.
It's good that at least two studios won't be closed down. Hopefully the two others in San Diego and Newcastle stay afloat on their own, someone losing their job always sucks.

I guess that explains why they stopped giving a damn about patches and fixes for The Suffering and The Suffering TTB crashes. Not that they cared that much to begin with, but still. (and I still can't play TTB till the end because it crashes at the end of level 13 :()

I liked several of Midway's games. Though, mostly as a publisher, as Surreal developed the Suffering games. But RoadKill and the first Area 51 were fun. I never got into MK much, but they do have a nice IP there. I dunno, I would hate to see 'em go.

I'd hate to see 'em go, too, though it won't be the same if they get rid of all their properties. I mean, Mortal Kombat was pretty much floating Midway for years, as far as I know. Not that they don't have a very long and rich history of games dating back 30 years. But then, hey, maybe getting a fresh start and beginning a couple of brand new, exciting franchises might be exactly what they need.

I doubt it. Warner Interactive will likely just saddle them with licensed games based film (eg Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings) or DC Comics properties.
Batman: Grand Theft Gotham, DC vs. Mortal Kombat Ex Plus Alpha, or some shit.

The Suffering 1 and 2 kicked ass.
