I haven't been this excited about new games for years. Hopefully this is the dawn of a new golden age for gaming.

@icemann - Keep in mind that this pre-release is extremely unpolished and is unfinished. It is an early beta of "Act I". They are only doing this to give the fans even more of a chance to give feedback on what they want improved and also to report any bugs. This is not the final game, which says a lot considering how good it already looks.
The actual release isnt until early next year! Imagine if the new Thief team cared about their product as much as these guys do. What a shame.

Sometimes the awesomeness of a game to a person is due to its unique retro style, overall game tone in line with how games of that time period (80s, 90s etc) were being done, or how the game plays. Similar to movies made in particular eras, and how they differ to ones done later even when their the exact same genre.
My absolute favorite first person rpgs of these kinds was from Eye of The Beholder - MM7. And of those Eye of The Beholder 1&2, Darkside of Xeen, Lands of Lore: The Throne of Chaos and MM7: For Blood and Honor are my all time absolute favorites. Though I'm sure everyone else has their own unique favorites from this genre.
To me, they really NAILED the art style of those kinds of games in that time frame that went hand in hand with the fantasy setting. After that things went in a more 3D direction and lost much of the charm that had been there. Not to say that the games were bad after that point, just not AS good.

Press Release
12 November 2012
Today I received an email from an official representative of Ubisoft regarding the license and use of the "Might & Magic" trademark for the Might and Magic X: Children of the Void game development project. To protect this person's privacy their identity will remain anonymous.
Quote from: Ubisoft
The Might & Magic team as a whole is honoured by the time and energy you and your team are putting in the Children of the Void project. It is truly delightful and humbling to see fans hard at work to continue the tradition of the past Might & Magic games and universe...That being said, using the name “Might & Magic X” for your project is unfortunately an issue with Ubisoft. The name would imply your game is an official Might & Magic product, which could be misleading for the community. Also, there’s always the possibility a Ubisoft-produced Might & Magic X is released in the future...We have no issue however with you continuing the previous storylines or using the pre-Ashan characters. Mentioning the name Might & Magic is also OK as long as the “fan-produced” and “unofficial” nature of the project is obvious.
~Might & Magic Team Representative, Ubisoft Entertainment
This game development project will hereby be changing our operating title to Children of the Void: An Unofficial Might and Magic Sequel. All other aspects of the game, with the exception of certain logos, usernames, and other promotional materials containing the "Might & Magic" trademark, will remain the same.

There you go, a nice little bit of history before MMX was ever officially announced by Ubisoft. I was working with Alamar at the time. :)

Didn't "Swords of Xeen" a fan project that started off as a mod and then later turned into a full blown game include "Might and Magic" in it's name? That game is included in every official 1-5 M&M pack also even though it was a fan created project.

Ubisoft isn't exactly the same company as New World Computing/3DO/etc. They obviously do things differently to the franchise's previous owners.
