Mine Shock, Main shock . . . whatever! Just get me past the first doors! - by taffedinthehead

OK - I lowered the bridge and ran into the building to find two unfrobbable doors and some platforms leading up the wall - there is a haunt in there and I don't know what to do next. All I know is that I "died" awhile back, but I'm still able to play the mission! So, two questions:
1) Am I supposed to be dead now?
2) Where the heck do I go from here?
By the way - I'm playing the Thief Gold version right now. Haven't tried the T2 yet - maybe it's more explanatory.

I have played Mine Shock T2, which I think is quite a good mission, after you get past a little
climbing puzzle.
I just loaded up this one for the first time. It is totally different at the beginning from the T2 version, and it is just plain crazy. My biggest problem with it is that I cannot save and reload a game. It crashes to desktop. I guess that is intended - you have to play it through in one sitting. So I can't complete it tonight.
Anyway, JIS always has an angle. And in this one, the angle I can figure so far is that
you are invulnerable after you die, which is inevitable, and you have an unlimited supply of mines. So, you can blast away at whatever you are blasting without worrying about taking further damage yourself.
In the case of the Haunt,
when you kill him (it takes a long while), a door opens up. You find another haunt with a gold colored key. I haven't figured out where to go from there.
Maybe in a couple of days I'll have time to see it through. Let me know if you get any further. :)

It's been a long time (or should i say lots of missions) since i played that one but iirc JIS decided half way to the project to abandon it in order to do a much improved T2 version (Mainshock). The architecture of that mission however is quite different. I remember after fixing the crash upon loading, i went further into the mission until i got stuck. I think there was an unfrobbable switch at some point which would prevent you from opening a door and moving along (unless i missed something REALLY big here). In the editor however, there was quite more rooms to explore, what seemed to be different areas that weren't connected between them (i think) hence i had to modify my starting point sth like 3 times in order to explore them because i loved the look of the mission and wanted to see it. Those areas weren't empty btw, enemies were there. Anyhow, i'm a huge fan of JIS and all Japanese FM's, they're different and i love them for that.

Waht doors? The LC-type doors? They can be opened. Don't remember where the button/whatever is, but I think it's in a close or relatively close proximity to the doors. I vaguely remember a
button being linked to a staue for some reason.
If you do get through, be careful
there's a nasty mage in there.
Forget it; I have no idea what I'm talking about.

Would you care to share that fix with us? I would really like to proceed without leaving my computer running for days....
I am a JIS fan, too. :)

Well, I got a lot farther this evening, exploring quite a few passages in the church. metal dawn's decription is accurate, but not with respect to the doors.
The statue thing is a not-so-secret passage.
I messed myself up by missing a rope arrow shot (an easy shot that I had made before), and that is it. No spare rope and no reload, so I have no place to go and must start over. Or maybe not. At this point, it seems similar to Mine Shock T2 (but still different), so I think maybe the T2 version is the way to go until a fix to the reload problem in this version is made available.
Hint, hint.... :D

I found that unfrobbable switch, and I think I may be at a dead end as a result of it. I did not have time to search exhaustively for an alternate route, but I did search quite a bit. JIS is fond of little remote buttons, but I have never seen him put a dummy switch next to a door that is opened by a button. It could happen though. He is very sneaky.:)
It would be nice if someone went into dromed and fixed a few things like that switch and the no reload problem.

To fix the crashes upon loading, you must load the mission into DromEd, then open the "editors" drop-down menu, select "mission parameters", you should see boxes for the number and name of the mission. In our case, "Mine Shock" has a no.20 miss file so you should enter "20" in the number box and "mis20" in the name box. Save the file and you should be able to play. There's a chance that the objectives will not work anymore (empty boxes) buy hey, it's not as if we could understand a thing beforehand eh? :ebil: :laff: :sly:

That works find if you do dromed. I don't, unfortunately. And it helps only one person at a time. Is there a file you can change and post somewhere?
Also, if you want to do it, it would be nice to fix that unfrobbable switch so more of the mission can be reached.
