It now seems that all bugs related to server-side inventory are being ironed out of Minecraft with the beta releases, and that we will get real working survival multi-player very soon.
So I'm asking you, what should we do with the server I'm hosting? The plan was always to make a survival game and since the software is reaching a working state, I'm thinking we could switch it on for the new year.
I'd like to know how many of the old builders who ran out of steam after the repeated bugs and broken hopes of stability -and who didn't switch to necival's server- would be interested in getting all together again in a common effort @anodal.

Difficult question. I seem to have a persistent lag problem there (Probably because this is a virtual server [right?] and something else that is running there interferes. This server is basically next-door by trace - necival's is barely short of trace-hop-limit at the other side of the f* planet - yet, i have no lag there) - so, i actually can not tell with certainty that i will keep showing up. Still, would like one more world to begin a new :D.
However, i have been rarely there lately - so, my opinion should not have much weight.

I voted for this: Leave the world as is, delete everyone's inventories and chests, switch survival on
Although I only just (bought Minecraft and) visited yesterday and was amazed by everything, so I'd rather keep the world to explore it a bit. I don't know why everyone's inventories and chests need to be deleted for that to happen though. (?)
I wouldn't be averse to a reset, just to build and see everything being built from the ground up, but I suppose I can do that on any server and it seems such a shame what with everything everyone's already built.

If we're going to delete inventories, I'd much rather start on a new world, since I've already mined half of the area I've been building in.

New world because of the map-gen tweaks too ever since last world.
Would be lovely with cavernous mountains sticking out of the sea, with room for lots of bridges and houses on the side of mountains, with the water below.

I say we should keep the world as is if we want to switch to survival mode. Cause to be honest once it's on and there's no more duping and tool repairing bug, it will become extremely difficult to recreate the nice setting we have right now. But then again I'm not even sure I'll enjoy survival mode, and like Zombe I have connection problems, although not related to the server itself and so I may not even be able to play anymore.

If the duping bug has been fixed and there is a survival MP, I will start playing again. I would prefer a new world. I've not been on for ages, so my vote shouldnt possibly count so much.

Trust me, that's no problem, you should see the magnificent stuff built on the other server.
We just wont make any sky-piercing lightstone cocks anytime soon.

but make a backup of it just in case :)

Why would we possibly reset the server? The only obvious example of duping is the dick tower, but it's important.
My concern is that I'm in the middle of a pretty damn big project and I'd hate to lose my work. I've been at it for a very long time. :(
I'd really rather not have survival on, but the majority seems to want that. However, I see no reasons for resetting the server and one reason against it.
