A friend of mine just posted this, and I'm...flabbergasted. I have been for the whole duration of the project---I figured he'd get burned out sometime---but he finished it...
If you know Minecraft, it's also worth noting that he did it on Survival mode, and mined/smelted/made all blocks by hand, no mods or command-line powers involved.

This should probably be in GenGaming but anyway I guess the word is ... epic? There are a lot of epic projects out there, but this is a good one.
Funny, if he (or any of these guys) had made something in Lightwave it would have looked much more realistic but wouldn't get near the attention, but to do it in Minecraft in Survival mode... I guess everybody understands how tough that must be, not only building it, but getting & shleping all the material and dealing with the occasional zombie walking in, lol. Probably something he did as much for the experience as the end product.

that's pretty cool, but it's no cathedral of zod
But seriously, I guess I should just give up on minecraft now. :erg:

Yeah, he's already contemplating other projects :-)
And: I'm sorry for dropping this in the wrong forum---can a mod move it?
Other folks could add in their Minecraft chatter/big projects, if anyone else here plays!

Wow. Big :thumb: for including a good chunk of the "making of" part - much appreciated.

It's all stone.

It's all stone.
Yeah, that's one of things that totally blows me away about it. He mined TONS of cobblestone, then coal, built a huge furnace room, and smelted all of the cobblestone into real stone again.
His storage vault was also freaking enormous, just to hold all the junk dirt/gravel he mined up while mining for the stone and coal he needed.
