Yeah I was wondering about that white spiders too. At first I got thrown off and thought it was a cave spider, but went back to the default textures (and then also remembered that the new spiders are blue) and they were black again.

It'd be nice to see you on anodal again. I can show you the NPC village that bob and others have been hanging out at ,and the stronghold. There's this cool mushroom hideout near the spawn point as well, and a massive cave system.

Just avoid the lit area nearby, I'm planning to build a castle based of Zontik's fan mission. Now to find out how to get several hundred blocks of wool...

Well I'm having a blast with 1.9 thus far. I found a ridiculous cave system among some amazing mountains, and an underground ravine. I dug a little deeper and fell underneath the ravine, just next to some lava. I found a few diamonds, and then got back up the hole I came. Tried that digging down thing one more time and yep, splat, into lava. There goes those diamonds. Anywho, I'm diligently working away at this massive complex, hoping I'll get some diamonds to mine this cache of obsidian, I want to visit the Nether world castle... Also, when you create snowmen, they will fight off enemies... however they dont seem able to kill, only to push away enemies. It works however, if they're fighting near a cliff. I am making a snowman army to protect the higher areas of my fortress, so I can focus on digging deep, awakening the horrors that lie in wait...

Swamps are swampy, villagers are hilariously ugly, snow golems are a lot of fun, and nether ruins are downright awesome.
I'm going to be using so much nether brick. :D

Yep, i guess i was too sleepy - forgot that the 1.9 update is nether update. Nether indeed has seen a few improvements.
I noticed some odd omission while inspecting the recipe dump - there does not seem to be a recipe to make nether bricks :/ ... only nether fence / stairs.
The mushroom-biome has some hilarious cow overpopulation issues.

I am going to have soooo much fun when I finally break down, and get Minecraft (maybe when it exits beta?) and am the only noob on the server.

Why would you wait? They're going to up the price again when it does exit beta and it could have been considered essentially a complete game for a long time as far as I'm concerned.
