I recommend Sphax PureBDCraft 128x128. Not only is it the nicest (and highest res, up to 512x512) texture pack, but it might fix your problem with invisible trees?

Fucking hell, that's the FOURTH time I drown in three feet of water due to the pain animation pushing you downwards and not letting you swim to the surface. WTF. I drown staring at the water surface just 1 block above me, unable to move. Awesome...

I read that the paintings artwork used in this pack is mostly fanart. It's all rather stunning, from a Creerer in the Obama/Kennedy propaganda motif to some stellar Minecraft parody art... tried to log in to take a pic of the two paintings in my home in the town now (I took the house with the mushrooms) but it seems it just ate it...

Fun facts about MOOSHROOMS: Mooshrooms are the most resourceful mob in Minecraft: Mooshrooms can be "milked" with a bowl for mushroom stew; shearing them drops 2-5 red mushrooms, which changes them back into a normal cow that can be milked with a bucket; the Milk is used for making cake; and when you kill the cow it can drop 1-3 pieces of raw beef and 0-2 pieces of leather. This is a total of at least 6 items that can be directly or indirectly obtained from Mooshrooms! Now, to find a pair, tame them, and lead them into my mooshroom field. @_@
