I saw some bad reviews of Avante, and reading through your thread, it looks like you had some issues with them also. That's not to say another provider won't have similar issues, but still.

They were a bit problematic at first but after a few initial issues everything ran smoothly. My only problem with them is they're slow to bring up the custom minecraft.jars after an update.

In the end, I got a 1.3.1 vanilla server running. I've yet to build something on there but the infrastructure (including map and backup) is up and running at minimal cost. I found out some of the RAM shares and disk space weren't used at all on my VPN since I had last turned Minecraft off, so I took the opportunity to create a new server, fully separate from my own personal server (hence: new IP).
Please drop me a PM with your Minecraft handle for white-listing. I'll reply with the server address.
VPS specs:
* 1 core from an Intel Xeon L5640@2.26 GHz
* 1,536 MB RAM
* 35 GB storage including 10 GB on a secure backup storage array
* 10 MBps dedicated bandwith with unlimited data
* Debian 6 64-bit
* Situated in Baltimore
* For the moment, only runs Minecraft, Overviewer, nginx and backups.
I only had to pay 10 additional eur. to get that, but the 'leftovers' from the old server won't last long. I can guarantee it'll run perfectly until mid-october, still.

On BH's server, when created, the world type was "default". Since it's only been about a day, if people haven't built to much already, and those people agree, it could be set to "Large Biomes", and then reset the map.

I guess I don't mind. I just built the first floor of a house and mined like 30 iron, so if we're going to do it better now than later. Large biomes sounds good anyway.
Edit: In the jungle of course. Sort of funny... Jungle noises in my headphones; jungle noises outside my IRL room. Couldn't always be sure which was which sometimes.

Okay it's done. The spawn is in a forest right next to a desert and there's a village not far.
