I ain't joined in yet, but I say let things run their course, and let creative anarchy have its reign. Let people decide if they gotta jigger around real estate space for their projects on their own and between themselves. Who's to decide what's super-creative and what ain't, anyway?
I think I chose my words in a way that has been interpreted in quite a negative way.
I'm all in favour of anarchy, but that is not the same as chaos. We can still choose (as a group) the direction of construction in certain places. In the old world we had the alpine heights area (that I scarcely added to btw) that was one of the most interesting in my opinion.
It wouldn't have happened if someone hadn't started the ball rolling, and then others joined in by free will.
Around it, and around the spawn area, we had a chaotic free-for-all with individually magnificent buildings that lacked any cohesion, which I also liked. There was room for both.
I'm only suggesting that we could take the alpine heights phenomenon up a gear (if we want)
eg- most of us have built mighty towers here and there, but if we built together we could make a kind of bladerunner-esque sci-fi city. That hasn't been explored yet. My personal opinion is that it would look better if it was thematically separated from (or blended into) the low-key alpine heights type mansions etc, but I wouldn't dream of trying to invent rules.
As for duping - I don't care about it but some people seem to and I thought a dupe-free reservation might be a good way to showcase their hard-line talents.

Put up a sign with the information of what is being built. They will come.
That's how Alpine Estates came to be as far as I'm aware.

I agree wholeheartedly with Guzzleguts - I mean Tenkahubu :sly:. The new server (sorry again, guys - no response from the host yet) has a v. nice layout around the spawn, many islands and a huge landmass not far away, awesome caves. The only thing missing is a real, dense community effort like the Alpine estates.
Someone has to start with an idea that everyone likes, and people will follow. Maybe a pirate-themed isle bay?
As for duping, I don't like it but well... as long as that bug will be present I'll support people who use it. They just need to tell others when others are involved, which is why Duck's duped tool chest with a warning sign is a good thing. Also, people that don't duplicate need to maintain a positive attitude of pseudo-elitist emulation, "I am proud to dupe as few items as I can" rather than "You suck because you dupe". But I'm not worrying, the community spirit is really great.

As I've mentioned on the server, I don't have anything against other people duping, but it's become a natural part of peoples lives while in reality it will be one of the first bugs to go when the update-train starts choochoo'ing again.

I wanted to try a Dwarf fortress with districts. It would need to be well planned and have rules with more than one person working on it though.

Yep, actually, I forget who it was but somebody built the giant bridge across the ocean. Things kinda started rolling on from there. It was just me and another guy (mamwe?) for a while, then I saw you jump in just about everywhere. I've been watching things progress since. It's really quite exciting to see what everyone's built.
About duping, I find it removes some of the excitement of finding dungeons down below containing chests of gunpowder and saddles. Also, diamonds should be worth the hard work of finding them, not copied. Such is life however, and as long as the bug remains, there's nothing to be said about it.
Before duping though, I was curious to see if we could manage to start a small economy using gold bars and possibly coal as currency. Bob's tree farm was a prime example of this.

I think developing an economy would still work if the people duping would only dupe for themselves and keep the stuff outside any trading. It's not like everyone here can't be trusted to do that. And it seems like the majority is trying to keep things legitimate this time anyway. Towards the end in the old world I was duping everything I could get my mitts on, but this time around I'm trying to commit to the non-duping crowd and I've already realized that I was robbing myself of a lot of the fun that can be gotten out of this game. It's surprisingly satisfying to go on an expedition and finding a beach full of clay, instead of just standing there for ten seconds and duping a dozen stacks of bricks. It's also nice to treasure my diamond tools and just use disposable iron gear for everyday digging. In a game with no story little personal narratives like that add a lot of flavor.
As for the Alpine Estates v2, like some people have said a sort of a piratey Caribbean thing would fit the new map great. Since there's so much water and little islands I'm thinking a town on wooden stilts where you could just as well get around by boat as by foot. Maybe encircling some bay or lagoon. There's plenty of good-looking spots on the map.

Shit, AWESOME sprite work. What's the link again? I NEED those.
