I have an idea for the new map to build a small collection of brick and clay and stone buildings to make a proper town with that people can move into/adjust to their likings, and we just expand from there.

It would be cool to have some definite plans if we end up resetting the server - though I'd personally suggest maybe allocating a cubic area to individual people for our 'town', having our grand projects on the outside.
What we've done in this one (well... other people tbh) is really cool in terms of infrastructure - pathways, roads etc. Alpine estates was good, but confusing a lot of time. It would be great to refine that even more. Hmm

If mobs are given the power to break through blocks a bit I'd like to imagine a kind of medieval walled city maintained by everyone. Outside the city limits you're on your own.

I love this idea. I really hope the Halloween update fixes agros in MP and train carts.

Perhaps a definite rule is that the town should be entirely above-ground- no more Dick Pit or anything like that. Basements are fine, of course. The primary reason for this is because I want to have us build a proper train/subway system that would have a central station in the new town, and then stretch out to different areas as they go up. This would be especially good if warps cause crashes like they do now.

A couple alternating rows of cacti should keep the hordes at bay.
EDIT: Also roads should be 3 blocks wide so we can have cart tracks on one side and still have room to walk on them.

I started a tower in the water next to the Church, but it isnt turning out how I thought so I'm going to abandon the project and start recovering the materials, but it's made out of steel so it takes a while. Anyone who wants free steel blocks or wants to break a lot of glass is free to do so.
