Perhaps a definite rule is that the town should be entirely above-ground- no more Dick Pit or anything like that. Basements are fine, of course. The primary reason for this is because I want to have us build a proper train/subway system that would have a central station in the new town, and then stretch out to different areas as they go up. This would be especially good if warps cause crashes like they do now.
Love the idea of a railroad, but it doesn't mean we can't do shit above or below ground does it? Surely you could just place an entranceway at ground level that you could run a railroad along.
As far as centralizing the community goes, also a valid cause, but I don't think building houses for people is the right way to do it, because surely most of us will want to create our own stuff. I'd rather select a nice big space to start with and do our building with future development in mind so that there's room for everyone to stick their crazy buildings next to each other rather than needing to strike out to find new ground.

Create LOTS, not houses.

I don't think we'll need to disallow building underground for a subway. Even AE didn't have that many below sea level builds. A subway doesn't need to get you everywhere, just from one district of town to the other so there should be plenty of room underground. And remember there are powered carts, so you could (probably) even make them go up a spiral of blocks if you have to.

Server status: Little downtime unrelated to Minecraft. Everything should be back to normal in the next hours.
Re. lag issues, this is a bit weird as we have more bandwidth, RAM and processing power since last Friday. If you still get intermittent and noticeable lag, please send me a PM describing your geographical region and the time frame when it happened.
Re. griefing. Let me say first that I didn't have much time to come and play during the last days, so what I say is said through a pretty remote viewpoint. Things don't look too bad from there, sure there have been some blocks put here and there to annoy specific people, but with so many users this was bound to happen. I'm more concerned about fires. In my opinion, they have been restricted to rather small areas/buildings and haven't happened consistently enough to call it a real problem. Please report all griefing attempts through PM as I don't read all server logs. I'll try to narrow down the time frame and shortlist candidates as much as I can. I've already done that for previous attempts.
People with moderator powers are invited to proceed with random checks on other players, not only new players who aren't from TTLG. This is a fair and effective deterrent, so players shouldn't be offended by an op /tping to them.
I trust everyone to do whatever they can to keep the place clean without needing to resort to drastic measures. Disabling F&S/TNT was a big no-no back when I tried it, and preventing your friends/non-TTLG members from building isn't really open-minded.
:D

That's kind of awesome.
Ended up going with bookcases though!

So I take it that most of the regulars have gone off this game? Just like Alien Swarm? ;)

Just rarely getting a chance to play - and also, anticipating halloween update and losing everything.

Tirgal what texture pack is that? Share please. :)
And Bob dont worry, I think most people are just waiting the Halloween update. I for one love this game but there are just a tiny few things that need to be added to keep it from getting stale imo. Specifically, the actual game mechanics other than just being a digital lego set. If Notch fixes carts and baddies for MP, that'll go a long way.

http://img219.imageshack.us/img219/2646/herobrine.th.jpgI'm inclined to ignore cries "OMG SO FAKE!!1!" and just enjoy the mythology. Someone has honed in wonderfully on a fear that is particularly prevelent in that kind of situation; thinking you're alone, and being given a hint of reason to believe that perhaps, in actual fact, you aren't.
In fact, I particularly relate to it, because it's a similar feeling I've had while hiking. Being alone in the middle of nowhere, and hearing (or having an active/THC'd enough imagination to believe you can hear) voices, footsteps, or see shadow moving between tree silhouettes etc (This happens - deer are bastard fucker dickheads!). How do you think you'd react to seeing Herobrine in SP?
