Biomes make exploring officially awesome. Check out the warp list for some nice spots and add your own!

Water freezes but I haven't seen snow.
Fishing works but I can't pick up the fish (in mp, haven't tried sp).
I havent found any "scary fish".
Portals apparently don't work.

I still think after some experimentation, we should start a new map.

I agree. I PM'd BH about it but he hasn't gotten back to me yet.

We've also been waiting for something more functional than a few forests and some sand. What's the use of a new world without mobs, health and dupe fixed?
To be a little more precise, here's a list of what I could gather from the short time I had with SMP halloween update:
* Biomes
* Doors
* Pumpkins
* Tweaked textures and sounds
* No falling snow
* No resource optimization
* No portals/hell
* No minecarts
* No fishing
* No enemies
* No health
* Major SMP bugs still in (stairs, dupe)

Those can be added in later without fundamental changes to the landscape.
I say we wipe it. It'll be interesting to see what people do with a new world complete with the biomes.
Maybe there should be a poll.

Slightly OT, but i think it is worth to ask.
Experimented with modding today (using 1.1.2_01 as base as the current version might change annoyingly fast). Basically - completely rewrote the crafting-recipe thing. Works fine. Currently it has 189 recipes (some old ones + some changed old ones + crapload of new ones + a few debug recipes) - makes every block (bedrock, lava, fire, etc) / item (chainmail armor, etc) available / craftable.
Tried to rewrite the basic crafting logic also - to allow consumption of more than one object from stacks. Got most of it working, but gave up as one important part of the original code had an illogical/broken class relationship and would have required to basically rewrite all the affected parts (about a dozen classes) or some horrible hack. Given the obfuscation => fuck me. Not going to do that.
Now, i am reasonably certain that any such modded client can use thous recipes in smp also - should i bother to invent some hack in there to prevent that? It would basically render the "/item" command obsolete because of the dupe bug. On the other hand, anyone with basic reading skills (minecraft wiki of all places) and a bit of common sense can smuggle anything into the game anyway - just not that conveniently. ... am i worried too much? ... should i care?
Different question: any proposals for crafting a regular apple? (intending to sometime mod the sapling drops to have a small chance of dropping an apple instead)
PS. if someone could remind me basic java (ohgodihatethisthit) - i could make the recipe list non hard coded / outside of the class (some txt file or something).

I have not been around since the last big crash, and now I am plying FO:NV. The SMP updates aren't really enticing me to come back. Sorry!
I just feel this:
Minecraft:
Short term: worth the money I spent on it and entertainment it provided
Long term: can I really wait for it to become all it needs to be, or should I revisit in 6 months to a year? I am thinking revisit at Alpha.
I would help build castles if they were under attack etc. and it became more like MP dwarf fortress.
Anyway I enjoyed digging with you chaps!

psst it already is alpha
