Awesome. Whatever that last update did is making MC crash immediately in SMP, then not letting me reconnect to the server for an hour.

Yeah, no. I'm here to build a thriving little Minecraft town by the shore with no fear of harassment from anything other than stupid fucking chickens that wander around and catch fire. I don't want to have to put everything behind a wall and put 6,000 torches everywhere. The separate server concept sounds solid to me.

The "separate worlds/servers" idea was edited in after I decided that telling people who dislike survival to go fuck themselves wasn't so nice. So don't count on it too much.
Anyway. Server back up again after the newest update.

the community here is already tiny, 2 servers would fracture it into 2 desolate wastelands instead of one decent community.

I don't know after the update everyone turned into a whiny bitch and now even though the server is back to creative mode no one gets on.
