I'm going to throw my vote in again for a new map (especially if we're running out of RAM again) and no warping of any kind. Let everyone grow a pair.
while i wouldent mind the adventure of starting a new map, i would be happy to see old world removed, the stuff stored there is 99% spawned / duped. Though if thats to much work, id like to see a new map spawned and give the RAM a break with a new map.

Two bits of news:
Gold has been chosen as currency. Start a store, trade your goods for gold ingots. If enough people agree, redstone could also be used (64 redstone = 1 gold).

I wouldn't mind going with a new map either, for aforementioned reasons.
If we do that, however, I would go as far as to suggest we generate it with (
http://www.minecraftforum.net/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=76184) this mod to keep things fresh and interesting. It adds more variety to biomes, such as using different tree and shrub types for different kind of areas and allows alteration of some of more important values of the world generation code. Altering these values makes it possible to create all kinds of fascinating world settings from arid wastelands to ridiculously large oceans where land to build on is luxury indeed.
Even if we weren't aiming for a very specific setting (which could turn stale rather fast), it can be used to create worlds with a good deal of variety, quite similarly to vanilla minecraft, (
http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=bngGp_3ru94) but arguably with the biomes looking a lot less samey.
Now I haven't done extensive testing with the Biome Terrain Mod, but assuming I'm not the only one liking the idea of at least trying it out I think we could generate a world, for example with the fairly balanced looking (
http://il.youtube.com/watch?v=bngGp_3ru94) "Continent" settings, play it for a day or so and then decide whether we want to keep it or scrap it.
(

Dude, I love that biome mod. I love the big forests and mountains, I would TOTALLY be down for a new server using those biomes.

Oh my gosh!... :wot:
We need that mod NOW!

Some warning signs / problems:
* The mod has not been updated by mod author (last post/activity 11. dec.) - last is still for alpha 1.2.6.
* There has been some updating by a third party - put only for ssp.
* Notch promised an update next week - i doubt we see the mod update in a timely manner.
So, currently it seems to be impossible for SMP.

Zombe is correct of course, I didn't realize there is no newer multiplayer version. The mod is something to keep in mind for the future regardless.

Aren't SP maps usable in SMP? I seem to remember they were, with a bit of moving/renaming files, but I might be wrong.

It's possible and not even very complicated but since new landscape generates on the fly the players would have to be restricted to a pre-explored area.
I think we should just wait and see if someone updates it.

Well, I guess I have the unpopular opinion here. I'd rather keep what we have, there's just so much cool stuff we've got! It'd be a disappointment to lose it all. Unless of course you (BH) can just keep a backup copy of the world file(s) and send them to who wants them?
