I can't really play anymore because of my crappy connection, but I really don't understand the sudden want for a new wipe. I thought we'd been through this already. A few pages back we agreed to remain on the same server to keep the old stuff but to move the spawn point far away. We also agreed to wipe all chest content and duped stuff. I agreed to this and it felt like it was a completely new server (I mean it's not like the world map is too small or anything). I built everything from scratch, getting blown up by creepers every 5 minutes, and it was awesome. If some people couldn't take the difficulty and had to cheat, it's not my problem, it's their fault. We shouldn't have to pay because they spoiled the game for themselves. And I feel that you people will always find an excuse to ask for a wipe. If you don't like building a city and a community, go play the game in single player.
As for the mods, fuck this shit. Those trees look retarded. I mean the idea isn't bad but I'm sure Notch has his own plans to improve the game, adding different types of vegetation, and new monsters/enemies. And I trust him to execute this better than some random modder. Besides I doubt they'd be very optimized for multiplayer, the game is still being built and updated every week after all.
So alll in all I'm not a big fan of yet another wipe, or of using any mods. But like I said I can't really play right now so my opinion doesn't really matter. I guess if a wipe was decided, we'd just roll with it eventually. I just hope at some point we can stop wiping the server and really build a huge community world.

The essence of balance is detachment.
Or I don't take Minecraft seriously enough to be attached to anything I build. I'm extremely aware that anything not in single player could be lost to a sudden server disk failure, unfair ban or other random crap. Starting out is more fun than being all kited out to me, anyway. Sadly, I don't really have the time to play anymore. :(
Durr. Disk failure is something anyone expects every great while, but you don't tell your disk to fail once a month like this one...

You guys are taking wipes pretty seriously for a game that has no real goal.

That's what BH decided to do, I don't remember any discussion beforehand but I don't read this thread religiously. According to the poll, 11 of 17 people voted to start a new map with survival on, 5 wanted to play survival on the existing map with inventories/chests deleted, and 3 wanted to keep playing as we were without mobs.

Adding my 2 pennies:
Wipe or no wipe is fine for me either way. And i fully understand people who have some attachment to the current world. And i am inclined to give more weight to their will - losing stuff is bad for morale.
Also (i am wondering how many sentences i can start with words that generally should not be at the start of the sentence before i look too much like a dork) - i feel that notch has not yet added significantly stuff. Not much incentive to wipe yet.
On the other hand - current world has gone frigging huge - i would like to at least trim the hell out of it. Might help with frequent lag spikes (the non warp related ones - although it might help with those too ... or not help with anything at all). I bet the server's console is filled with "CAN'T KEEP UP" messages.
About the more mobs / biome mods: if thous were possible ... well ... they are not. I see (with my coders hat on) ZERO chance of seeing a multiplayer compatible monsters mod in foreseeable (even quite distant) future. About the biome mod i already expressed my concerns: impossible atm - no solutions in sight. So, neither of thous mods ads any points for nor against a wipe.
I'd say - let's wait till more people get bored with the world we have and want to begin from zero.

thats not such a bad idea. whoever eplored the huge ass straight line from the main part of the map needs to be shot. that wasn't a good idea.

Had to be a mod.
Someone added warp points.
