For the economy I think we need to:
A)Set up a common denominator resource for base currency.
B)Set up an exchange rate for the rest of the resources.
I mean....gold and such is fine and it's not -that- rare, but it's neither covering entire hills of the stuff. And sure, everyone can and sure, anyone can mine stone, so why not make 10 full stacks of it actually be worth something?
Just a few minor examples....I'm just saying....
:)
Erm...seems I can't connect....client not updated I assume, eh?
:)

Oh geez, sorry -- I went out clay hunting with monterto and decided to travel all the way back. The distance seems a lot more ridiculous now. Do chunks the server isn't simulating really add to lag, though?
you guys can shoot me if you want to
Actually I was just reading about bukkit (which is going to replace hMod) and it says that hMod forces the server to run in one thread.... and that may be why we have been having lag. i'm going to test with my server, run it without hmod and see if its lag-free. if so i hope bukkit comes out soon.

hMod hasnt updated yet, as far as i know. would be nice if he ran it vanilla in the interim

That's what I've done. Behave guys.
@MrDuck it's "server" not "client" ; )
@alchy bukkit isn't really usable yet. Latest build works I think, but doesn't do much.

thanks :)
also no lag yet. runs very nice, actually. hMod definitely was causing it to lock up

Damn you hMod!
I think I'll run the server mod-free for a while until things are a bit more stable.
@zombe: nice. I look forward to be playing again and try out all the new stuff. I just trust you to refrain from hacking those into your server inventory, since I know you can : )
EDIT@all: I'm reading the thread regularly. It was on purpose that I haven't commented on another wipe or server content mods yet; I want to have some hindsight as it's rather difficult to find a consensus on these subjects. I too would like a clean new server when I start playing again soon, but that would be terribly selfish. So far, Zombe/Tanzanite's proposition has been the most pragmatic: I don't like mods adding content to the game server-side, as their quality is debatable and we run the risk of breaking the game every time a new update comes (incidentally, that's why I hope the bukkit core will work whatever the server version - I've never been satisfied with hey0's way of doing it). And is there so much of a change in the new update to justify a new world? I don't think so. Alas, trimming the server world is not something I can do for the moment.
