I'm sorry that the server is not up to spec. The world is quite large and Minecraft is a hog, however I have only a few slowdowns and it is certainly not "unplayable" on my side.
Anyway, I plan on keeping the server alive as long as I can. Believe it or not, there are still regulars there. Still, if someone with a faster server wants to continue the legacy of the TTLG server, I have nothing against a fork and I can set up a transfer for the world data.
I would offer to start anew, but I don't think there are many here who would really start building afresh. I am doubtful I would.

It's not your fault. I think it was when notch patched the MP component that the lag got horrendous. Several of us were on that week beating our heads against the wall when 30 seconds of mining would suddenly pop back into existence, the long server-wide pauses, and SHAS just made it tough. I dunno if the MP code is better now or not, but it was enough to take the wind out of my sails. I had a blast when I was there, though and will hold that couple months of TTLG Minecraftery as one of my favorite gaming moments of all-time. Thanks BH, and all of those I MC'ed along side.

@The Alchemist and anyone else who cares:
So yeah, I still hop on from time to time, and the lag is still ever present, but it's not always bad. A friend of mine gets on regularly, or at least was getting on regularly. A second friend also joined and made a house right next to mine. Usually when I do get on there isn't anyone online. I guess I just get on at weird times eh? Of course, it's also entirely possible somebody is online but doesn't bother to say hello. Very hard to track players now that the server mod is gone. I really do miss the "/playerlist" feature.

Monterto and I still play on anodal. We spent a lot of last week mining for lapis lazuli. :P
It's rarely playable when anyone else is on, though.

See, that's my problem with the whole thing. I was drawn to the MULTI-player component. When a few people logging on to a server wrecks it all, what's the point? I would rather just play SP Minecraft with an AIM window open...
Boxsmith on 24/3/2011 at 10:03
Yeah... Even with just the two of us on the server, things are kind of laggy and choppy. One of us often becomes invisible to the other, which I thought was fixed. Another player joining will usually create a massive lag spike and less often a "connection timed out" error.
Still manage to have fun though. Can't work together with my friend in single player. :)

Yeah, you seem to have a sweet setup with a little co-op thing going there.

/me wandering around on familiar paths - writing as i go ( => recipe for disasterous english )
Kind of like a memory test for you - do you remember? Do you know where i am and what i see? :
* Spawn. 1min later timeout ... damnit. Relogin-spawn. Store all my crap, gear up and go ...
* Found a creeper-hole just outside jason's castle door => :D ... i somewhy find that just hilarious.
* Jason's castle has got improved considerably from when i last saw it :)
* Bob's palace got cactus borders now ... odd ... two holes where there should be something else ... can not remember what :/
* City hall (or what it was called) is missing a roof! ... firedamage? ... OH - in 1.3 fire physics got fixed => that was the two missing blocks in bob's place. Probably something similar, yet worse, happened here.
* Going to check other nearby wooden structures ...
* Treehouse is prominently present - only a madman would use fire there anyway.
* Boxsmith's - his fire lessons where learned well. Everything is ok :)
* Manwe's (iirc) ... OOH! ... completely burned ... only walls are standing.
* ... something else caught my eye - near the mega-mob-farm ... does the pig-piano actually work!? LOL - hilarious idea nonetheless.
* ... the train station looks gorgeous.
* ... wait, one of my mountain-light is still working O_o => someone nethered it. sweet :) ... back to tracking fire damage.
* Some optimist has tried to grew a forest below the 2011 sign - that did not go well.
* All other mountain-lights are dead + lighthouse.
* The ... thing ... on the water has got a lava pillar - looks interesting. was it necival's ... something?
* Someone felt the need to demolish my statue ... and the moody golden-apple-light-fixture at the garden ... that is just stupid.
* Oh ... and destroyed the vault door, nearby walls and the redstone wiring + all vault content ... that is beyond stupid.
* Whose little homey is between my place and bob's palace?
* The underground church-temple behind my & bob's place has been tnt'd to hell :(. Was a pretty neat place when i last saw it. Water-railed stairs there were quite unique.
* Brandon's house has miraculously appeared in the middle of nowhere - someone likes to live a dangerous life. Spent my night there - felt like home.
* Did not notice any changes around the glass-building behind brandon's place. I still do not know who built it in the first place.
* While moving towards the old town (the skypath) i noticed a wheatfarm underground due to graphics/loading bug (not far past my place) ... it fixed itself before i could see how to get there unfortunately. I DID however recognize the place as one i have been before - could not find a way this time tho. Whose place might that be?
* ... found a rather moody ruin-type hideout nearby, 30m from "YOU ARE HERE" (x_x) sign - are thous two connected somehow?
* Continuing towards old town and found an oddly shaped safehouse/way-down ... good to know there are non-splat alternatives.
* Hey ... this is bloody-god-damn-long-skyway !@#%$&*
* :D ... i DO remember that squarey-hole ... i have no memory of the tower being there tho - must be new.
* Hm ... where am i :/ ... what is that on the right, down on the beach? and the moire ... erm ... brick building on the left? :/ can not remember any of that.
* Nope, the brick building looks very familiar - which leaves the questing of what was that down on the beach? :/ ... where is a way down when you need one ... oh well - splat it is then.
* Seriously ... whoever built the docks down on the beach - ever heard of the magnificient invention of craftable torces? x_x ... damnit.
* (hm ... one of the reeds in my huge redfarm in boomtown is 4m high - who is trying to yank my chain here?)
* ... ok, back again ... where were we? FUUUUCK! ... there WAS a non splat way down to the beach ... g' damnit. yeah, daytime helps a lot.
* oh ... i am at the pyramid! people have been very active around here :)
Ok, i spare you from my insufferable cryptic log from now on :D
That was fun ... so, go, ready your arrows and go re-explore the world! Just walk the paths your feet seem to know and remember.
edit: how does egg-farm work?

Heh, sounds like you had a bit of a good time coming back to the server after a while. I know it's always cool to come back later and find what people have been working on. Feel free to visit my house if you like, just don't steal anything :P (my house is near the pyramid, you need to take the tower down to the bottom and then follow past the second tower to a stone path to get to my house.

WHAT!?
Last I saw it, it was fine. Someone must have found it who was a Non-TTLGer and decided to ransack it. I'm not sure who's vault that was, but that really stinks.
If you need any cobble, there's a cobble generator in the tunnel next to my house... (you can't miss the tunnel, it's right near the front door of my house.)

Explored the area thoroughly - you lot there have been very busy it seems :D ... much to explore yet - continuing tomorrow.
Who made that roller-coaster? Pretty darn cool. Has a few difficulties with getting the thing started tho - would like to try improving that.
Also, found something rather (
http://img828.imageshack.us/img828/3328/20110324233900.png) peculiar down there!
I believe slimes have chunk specific fixed spawnpoints - should guarantee them being thereAlso, right before i was leaving - a creeper got his way and damaged the track considerably. Did not have the means nor time to fix it - will do tomorrow. I hereby also offer my help to safety-light that area up in a non torch-spam way (somehow).
