They didn't buy just the one game. They bought the entire franchise, effectively. Toys, theme parks, (exclusive?) sequels... you name it.

You guys said what I was going to. After watching what this game means to my nephews, it reminds me most of Disney obtaining Star Wars. It's become this mega kid-exploiting institution, and that's always when the big vultures sweep in.
Edit: This doesn't mean I necessarily predict it's going to have the breadth & legs that Star Wars has had. Still seems like a big risk to me. That's just the logic of it I think.

Well, there's always the cross-franchising strategy. Worked for lego.
STARWARS MINECRAFT (iron + iron + leather + magical crystal from the caves of danoth = LIGHTSABER)
Indiana Jones minecraft would work quite well too.

This. There are plenty of ways to profit from the IP, not only with game sales. Heck, wasn't there a rumour about a MC film recently?

Or two and a half billion dollars.
Heck, I don't even have
one and a half billion dollars. (I blame the children.)

Everyone currently employed at the company is being sold with it, it's a decision made by the owners alone. We're all facing some changes now, can be stressful.
Things can turn out either way but I hope it's not in a bad way, we're pretty much family and good friends at this place.

I've never played Minecraft, always been put off by the fact that it looks like something my old ZX Spectrum could have rendered. Is there anything a seasoned gamer like myself could find appealing, or is it just a shallow game for women and children like The Sims? Hell, is it even a game at all, since it appears to be nothing more than MS Paint in 3D?
