If I had 10 bucks I would be all over this, just from reading this thread.
Alas, I am poor. :(

When there's forging let's all team up to make a steampunk, thief-style city
Do a succession game.

Now let's see what all the fuss is about.

I logged into it last night (GMT + 1) and couldn't find my hilltop fort either.
Found it thanks to it's torches and the new night cycle. If you cross the bridge and climb a hill near the wooden structure on the water, you should be able to spot it off in the distance.
Is it even possible to move the spawn point or was it just a bug?

I played this on the website for a while, then I bought the game and now it doesn't run. The alpha on the site works but not the standalone. I'm thoroughly depressed and considering to get a refund. As much as I like to support indie-game makers, I think I'll rather put it into something that works for me.
As much as I could figure out it's because of my graphics drivers (for Intel Mobile Express 945) reporting AGP Texture Acceleration as (
http://www.intel.com/support/graphics/sb/cs-009689.htm) not available. No idea why the website version runs though.

I don't think it should be a bigger issue getting that refund if you explain the situation, but that's giving up too soon.
When you say the alpha, do you mean the same version of the game works in the browser?
I had no issues running minecraft on my eeepc, and it has some antiqued intergrated excuse of a gpu.

Depends on the RAM. My dedicated server has 512 MB RAM and I've yet to see it slow down, but then people only come in on and off, it probably hasn't seen more than 5 people online at the same time.

The current version of the SMP client/server is really unstable and hangs up quite often, though rather on the client side, whatever the amount of RAM and CPU power.

The crashes and resulting loss of location, tools and materials is mainly what's putting me off building more. He's obviously working on it though.

On an eeepc!?! I get bad enough performance on my desktop sometimes. Are you playing it in Silent Hill mode? (foggy that is)
As for a succession game, sounds fun but I imagine that a multiplayer city would feel more alive somehow.

Yeah, I have to play it a bit tuned down in settings, but it's not completely unplayable.
Eeepc also makes for a good dark engine platform, since its antiqued hardware makes it possible to run thief series and systemshock 2 without much modifications.
