Oh, what are the IP addresses of some of these multiplayer servers you all are playing on?
Just type
anodal.org for mine. It's going slow but steady, unfortunately people rarely connect simultaneously. I don't know if Sinister Handed has better luck.

Or bring saplings, some dirt, and make a big cave. :)
Unfortunately, not very helpful if you need a fresh stack of torches
right now.

Plus you'd need a ton of torches to give the trees enough light.
Hey, I never said it was a good short term strategy...

So, after a couple of added hours, I've managed to build the base of this thing.

So, I'll probably upload the single player world once the building is finished and all that is left is filling up the rooms of it. Heck, maybe some of you are more creative than me when it comes to decorating and stuff.

My current build so far:
Inline Image:
http://a.imageshack.us/img841/6284/pagantower001.jpgIt's a huge tower with a platform on top. The platform is just higher than the clouds and a small bell tower looking building sits on it, housing the spiral stairs. Waterfalls flow out of the top and drain back into the sea. The red building is a brick warehouse I'm building while I grow grass to the top of the tower. I'm eventually going to build a couple smaller platforms for the tower too and make it so that the spiral staircase inside stops halfway and wraps around the outside to the top.
Also, I found a fantastic looking mountain nearby. Too bad I already have a base.

Advice for spelunkers that bears repeating, and that I've learned the hard way:
BRING WOOD!You can find everything you need underground to build every possible tool...
except wood. With a stack of wood, you'll never run out of torches or be stranded without pickaxes. But most importantly of all, wood lets you build chests.
If you're ever deep in a vast cave system and notice you've amassed a mighty haul, but don't want to turn back just yet...
build a chest. Put all the precious, precious ore in the chest. Mark the hell out of the area with torches so you'll be able to easily find it again. Trust me on this.
SSSSsssssssssssss.....
QFT. God, I recently lost a lot of shit because I didn't happen to have enough wood in my inventory to dig my way out of a very large cave. :(

I swear my world has no reed, and I'm too big a 'fraidy-cat to go looking too far for some, although that is how I found my lava. It was a lava fall pouring out of a sheer cliff-face that I spotted once it got dark. I earth-block-climbed to the source and swiped it with my bucket.
Then I ran home screaming like a girl after using a duped diamond sword on a zombie, having it disappear after one hit, at which point I panicked and fell off of a cliff.
What really gets me is when things start groaning at me when I'm underground. Freaks me RIGHT out that does. Inevitably I tunnel a little towards the source of the groaning before realising what I'm doing and running away.
Hence the house in the clouds.
Do you think I'll get pigs on my lawn up there once grass begins to cover it?
I've put up a fence around the perimeter to stop me and other visitors falling off, so some porcine company would be welcome.
Sheep can fuck off though. I see the way they look at me.

My world is snowy. Kinda cool, but will the season eventually change?
Afraid not. Not in the current version at least.
One of the next updates will apparently include some form of biomes though, so you'll probably be able to find non-snowy places in your world when it comes around, even if there's no changing the season. There will probably be all sorts of interesting terrain to explore then. Here's hoping for coniferous trees and mediterranean-style, cypress-filled archipelagos.
Oh, there seems to have been an update. Just bug-fixes apparently, though.

I caught one staring at me through my first floor windows just the other day, which leads me to believe that Creepers are improperly named. /shivers
