Oh the horror! I sent some mine carts down into the pits. When I got down to where they had stopped I found a smug little bastard creeper sitting in one of the empty carts. He blew a hole in my track system and the contents of the other cart all to hell. I thought they would only spawn in dark areas- is this not true? I'm lighting up the place as I go.
Light only reduces the chance of spawn sadly. Although it's a dramatic reduction.
Haha I like the wooden giant in that server picture. You need to set him on fire before you start a new world.
My warehouse has turned out eerily similar to the ones in Thief 2's Shipping and Receiving.

So it wasn't the 4 creepers at once that killed me. Nor was it the dizzying fall down a cavern that killed me.
I misjumped and fell into lava.
God fucking damn it.
The good news is, I think it broke my addiction.
Now dethy....come back here...
:)
*Tickles you*
:D
MINECRAFT!
Also, Xenith - Damn, son.....damn......
Well....my basement is still wider than your monolith's!
hmph....

Guess what. The save file corrupted. Bloody hell.
Of course, me being the insane, disturbed, sick bastard that I am, I started a new map and got winter on it. So I decided to carry on and build in a snowy enviroment. So far I've got a very small portion of it done.

http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/6027/fortressfront.jpgI suppose you can see the wide variety of colors in that shot, white, gray and torch. Well... it IS a stone fortress. Can hardly wait to start working on the inside actually, now that I've seen some nice screenshots of other peoples decoration.

Edit:
So yeah, the courtyard is complete. It's almost done. Perimeter walls and bridge are complete, I'm thinking about using some tree blocks to act as supports here and there for added funkynes. Also, redid some of the architecture to make the thing prettier.

(Sorry for the double post, just wanted to bump the thread.)
Right, you can get the fortress (
http://rapidshare.com/files/414851394/World1.7z) here.
It's all done except for the interior part of the main building and the 6 towers. Also, the main mine shaft and shelter I used... are six feet under and miles away. So, if you want to continue and keep on building on it there are plenty of resources nearby. Just one thing. I'm not sure how spawn-proof some parts of the fortress are. The main building for example has 2 floors right now and only the bottom one has light (one torch... yeah). Also, there's no way to get to the second floor, unless you stack blocks to enter it from the outside. Basically, I'm saying you should turn the difficulty down to 'Peaceful' before you load the save so as to not have any surprises.

Good god. It took me an entire evening just to build a home base beacon tower. Granted, the tower is made almost entirely of glass, and is covered inside and out with torches. But still...

It's spiral staircases that do my head in. Just when you think you've got them lining up correctly, one step switches 90 degrees, and that's it, you have to go up (or down) the whole staircase correcting steps
Edit: I got piggies and chickens on my now grassy platform! Let's hope Creepers can't spawn up there.

That's not hard. Just make a very tall column and place half step blocks around it one step at a time.
ZylonBane on 24/8/2010 at 20:56
I've completely given up on step blocks for all but the most non-trivial stairways. They invariably decide to orient in the wrong direction.

The ones I mean are the flat stone ones you make from a row of three cobblestone.
