A little update on my belowed land. So, I left off where I had a little city wall and tons of space. Well, I began deciding what to do. When you are surviving, you have to consider things practically - you'd probably want a place to sleep, a place to store stuff, a workshop of sorts... it all depends on priorities.
My highest priority was building a huge temple dedicated to myself, large enough to fit my ego in. So, it happened to be the first building standing in the town, built in a classic-ish church layout. It also happens to be the tallest building around those parts, and it was a major pain in the ass to build. During the construction - somewhere around the twentieth time I fell to my death - I granted myself a vision in my new church of my next task.
A graveyard. Seriously, people should make a lot more of those things. I mean, who doesn't die oh so often in this game? At any rate, I have dedicated some space to bury my earthly and pretty quickly disappearing remains. And of course to make the city's entire population of me remember my glorius, and/or utterly stupid deeds.
After that came the rest of the mundane stuff. I built a forge, sleeping quarters, forestry range, wheat farm, etc etc what a town might need. Suffice to say, I used up most of the free space I had (just look at the overhead picture). It was during this time I realized my greatest and most fearsome enemies...
...CATTLE. Damn cattle. Being the paranoid sociopath I man, I have flooded the town with all sorts of light (even the rooftops), so enemies can't really spawn inside the walls. But as a result, the city is CRAWLING with pigs, sheep and cows. Worst of all, they seem to spawn anywhere, even if the location is all fenced up. I lost count how many times they destroyed my wheat farm, fearlessly charging at my crops even when I swing diamond swords at them. Determined little fuckers.
After the city was (mostly) ready and looking something resembling a settlement, I decided to initiate project Wild West. Not the gungslinging part, sadly, but the railroad. Using all the iron I mined and abusing the practically infinite amount of trees I can make in the city, I constructed insane amounts of rails and minecarts. Then I built my Mega Railway System around the known world. It worked out so well I had to build multi-level railways in the end, because I couldn't work out better methods to do intersections, and also to minimize space usage on the ground level. I kinda lost track how far the railways go, but you can get from any to any of my constructions with them - though the distances being big, some treks can take a while.
And, being the friday noon, I set back and enjoyed my work: a thriving city. Until I realized that there is a perfectly nice island on the horizon, only waiting for me to get a foothold there. After making two railways there (transporting enough cobblestone and wood to make a huge construction without minecarts is a bitch I tell ya'll), I managed to make the island completely disappear. However, I now have a very beautiful and perfectly useful ligthhouse on the horizon instead. Only issue is, it's now crawling with sheep. I seriously gotta do something about them.
Oh, and one thing about city walls. They are great to establish a safe zone if you don't mind using up all your coal on torches or running forth and back with buckets of lava. But, this also means that once you go out, enemies might be swarming all over the place. I've had spiders, zombies and skeletons sit at my gate, just waiting for me there. One would assume they wouldn't get along so well, but apparently their burning hatred against me unites them in a singlular purpose. :erg:
Pictures time!

Also sports a two-level lava fountain at the top, and metric fucking tons of torches. Seriously, I used up like 20 pieces of coal just to make torches for this one.

Awesome stuff man! Now you really really made me want to build and underwater structure of sorts. :D
It can be a bitch to construct, but it feels awesome, really. So try, by all means. :cheeky:

No idea where it came from. I actually heard something in water before but assumed it the be a Pig that paddled around there. After the mishap - it dawned on me that i did not hear a single oinc ! x_x
Yeah, creepers are the things that scare me the most. Damn sneaky bastards, blowing up my buildings as well. Hate, hate. I actually had to reinfroce the city wall so it'd surely survive a creep exploding, even at point blank. Still, their silent approach makes them just as unnerving as midwives in SS2.
Damn you, I never found any brick blocks so far.
