Maybe we should propose to Notch to raise the vertical limits a bit more?, make it deeper/higher :D

Pffft, please. Check out my fantabulous glass torch beacon tower:
It would have been taller, but I hit the top of the world.
Haha, nice, well done.
...now you are seriously making me want to fill the entire lighthouse with torches, though.

The thing is, increasing the limit increases the game demands greatly. As I noted, the game stores/loads/unloads chunks based on a two coordinate system - X and Z. That means, ALL the chunks at a given point are loaded/unloaded/generated at the same time, and also they are probably synced over networking in multiplayer. Increasing the vertical limits to, say, 256 (twice as much as now) would thus immediately double the memory requirements, save game size and also likely the network traffic the game needs.
Though I could imagine a variable at world creation for vertical high, for those who don't mind.

I did the most idiotic thing last night in sleep, when I tried moving the bed sheets away so I can dig through the bed, minecraft style. I'm not sure if I pose a threat to society yet, but I did wake up laughing copiously on the matter.
Did some more work on the snow fortress and I'll put up some screenies when it's all finished.
Also another thing to add to my list of things to build: a huge glass tower ZB style.

Here's the tower I built on Briareos H's server. Building it reminded me how much I miss making things in UnrealEd.
Lost count of the number of times I fell to the ground leaning over to place blocks, but fortunately there's no self-damage on the server.
Not sure who built the wooden structure in the foreground and the TTLG lettering you can just see in the background?

Way, WAY too much :p
Unless you are digging for the looks - i suggest this pattern (top down. #=height 2, *=height 1 tunnels):
Code:
****# ****#
# #
#**** #****
# #
****# ****#
# #
etc.
Starting some multiple of 2 up from lava height (in diamond range preferably :D). Deepening '#' by 2 every pass and alternating '*' direction. As you probably noticed, this will fail to uncover some blocks - however, veins that fit in thous areas are very-very rare, and them happening to be in that blind spot is even rarer. => you get everything worth getting in there with only ~22% of the work.

Nice work there, I especially like the quick drop-chute-thing. (

I do something like malf, but I actually desperately need the cobblestone for all the crap I'm building, so i feel justified in being an idiot. :D
