Minimalist Project: 1.4.1 - Minor homepage update. - by New Horizon

I’m using minimalist for my second play through. Great job NH, I love it !
Actually, I had to tweak the difficulty a bit, I find you’ve a bit too extremist on this side… Was not so much of a problem, but why wouldn’t you make an option in the installer with 2 difficulty levels ? Shouldn’t take a lot of time and would prevent quite a few people to use your mod.
I actually have a request : would it be possible to change (increase) the prices in the shops ? I find it a bit weird that after 3 missions Garett is already multi-millionaire. Why the hell doesn’t he retire by then ? Double (or more) the prices would help to have the game a bit more challenging... It would be possible to make it an option in the installer as well
It would actually be great to “delete” some of the too many free items you get in the maps, especially in the city, but with my little knowledge about computers I guess that’s a big, big job and probably not possible for legal/ technical reasons (it certainly means editing maps and distributing them again once they’re “cleaned”)
Playing the game in French, I’m having a few problems as well for the texts (as our german friend Laex), sometimes it gets a bit irritating reading the text, although not stopping me from playing. (ï, é and ç being replaced by strange letters)
Last thing, I’m a bit worried that you consider to leave out the option for the loot glint in the installer once new loot textures are made. You may not like it, but why to leave out the option when it’s already coded in the installer ? I personally prefer loot glint, and I’m not the only one considering what I read in many threads…
Thank you once more, your efforts are appreciated ! :)

As he has stated many times in many threads, minimalist is not a pick and choose. To pick and choose would make it take a lot longer to install and uninstall, and it also goes against minimalist. Minimalist tries as hard as it can to take TDS back to the interface and non gameyness of its predecessors.
Anyway, Horizon, would it be too much trouble for you to post how to manually change the body find limit?

Yes, I know that's the way he sees it, I just find it a pity that it's turning away some people from away from his great work. (especially difficulty settings, although they're easy to tweak afterwards). Of course, he's already putting a lot of efforts inside this project and I can understand well that he does not want to spend a lot of time with options.
Nevertheless, when the option has already been coded (loot glint), i don't understand well the need to remove it. Basically if it's there, it can fit more people, helping to spread your "creation". So much work has gone into this, it's a good thing that a lot of people are using it.
Anyway, I don't want to pollute the thread with this discussion.

Well, the only reason loot glint will ever be removed is if there is no longer a need for it. If I can find the time to replace the textures with ones that are easily recognizable as loot, like in the original games, then there is very little reason for loot glint. It may or may not happen, no promises.

Trying to tweak the price values (using a programm coded by Saracoth but which is not working with 1.1 anymore :( ), I realised you had already increased the price, sorry for asking a feature that was already there.
I still find the prices low, would have gone to x3 or x4, but it's already better.
You may not want to bother to answer this question because you find evident, but could you confirm that it's not possible to take off some free items of the map ? or at least to prevent the items to appear again every time you get in the city ?

Hmmm, I am pretty sure that this would require editing each map individually and repackaging them. The items in question are actually placed within the map and don't just exist within the gamesys. If I removed the item from the gamesys, it would be missing in all the maps. I might be able to do something about them respawning though.
I'll look into it.

I would like to have lock picks and keys selectable from the inventory, instead of automatic use, but I haven't been able to find a way to get around the hard coding in the editor.
Yes, that would be great! I also find it annoying when you're being sucked in, even when you're standing two meters away. I had trouble with this in the first non-training mission when I tried to pickpocket someone who was standing in front of a locked door. I accidentally clicked the door instead of the pocket and was sucked in by the door and was of course detected :(
I installed the Minimalist Project yesterday and I love it. I especially like it that you removed the lock pick guide. I was a little worried at first though, I thought that it would be too hard. It is harder, but also more fun... and more realistic. With the guide I found it a little too easy, almost a little boring, but now without the guide I'm actually looking forward to the next lock (well, I've just started playing TDS...). It's so much more rewarding now.

Bug with installer, sort of. When you get to the option screen for using the default minimalist HUD or one that looks like the old Thief games, if you check the radio button box then change your mind, you can't un-check it. Back button doesn't help either. You have to cancel installation and re-start.

Very nice stuff, good work New Horizon!
I have some comments though:
I think removing the Blackjack raise wasn't a good idea. Ok, it's not that bad, but it was in there for a reason, I think. And that reason was that you can only KO them from a certain position - not like in T1/2, where you could do it from any direction. So it informed the player when can he/she KO the opponent. I can live without it, but I think it would be best if it could be an optional feature.
Did you alter how frequently the loot glint appears? It seems to me, that it appears more rarely that in the original game. If we have an option to turn it off, then I think it's not necessary to alter the original setting ... since it is there for a reason (that valuable objects can not be easily distinguished from crap). If you didn't alter anything like that, then never mind, it was just my imagination... :)
And I think you should put more into the readme about playing styles. Like what do they _exactly_ do/require. Okay, you can figure it out in game, but an overview would be great...

Having lost my own large collection of tweaks, I just installed Minimalist for the first time.

The only problem I think I've come across so far is that a few items/textures seem to be full time highlighted - for instance, the purse in the training mission, and the health potion at the beginning of the first mission.
Man, I think I'm going to play through the whole game again with minimalist. Wish I had it on the first run through. I bet Ion Storm does too.
