would there be anyway of getting rid of the lock picking in TDS and having something like in T1 & 2
No way! The lockpicking is just about the only genuine improvement in Thief3 over T1&2... It just takes a little practice to recognize the "sweet spots", and there is the visual clue of the hand movements/positions... Plus, I really doubt it would be possible to change it to a T1/2 style anyway... The only challenge to lockpicking in T1/2 was if a guard/monster was going to come upon you while waiting around for the picks to do their thing... boring otherwise.

The only things I would change about T3 lockpicking is to make it slightly audible to AI and to make it so you have to select the lockpicks from your inventory to avoid being sucked into the lockpicking position and to let the player choose to use a key instead. I would also put a key ring in the inventory that collects any key you pickup in the level...that way you just have to select they key ring from the inventory instead of cycling through ten keys.
I like it when things are less automated. Every action is a thought process that further engages the player. You test a door..."locked"...now the player has to choose. Try the key ring or the picks. Key ring first...."still locked"...okay, so you have to pick now. Only slightly more complicated but it would give players more of a chance to do what Garrett would actually have to do and not just let the game do it for them.

Do the different play styles create different difficulties with regard to number of opponents or AI? I know they all say 'high number of opponents' but I play the normal Thief style and I'm sure there are are one or two NPC fewer in certain places than last time I played (but it has been a while so I may be wrong). Like in Fort Ironwood there was no zombie in the first circular tomb room at the bottom of the spiral stairs but there was definitely one there last time.

One last thing: I have a custom main menu where "Thief Deadly Shadows" looked quite good. Now it has been replaced by "Thief The Minimalist Age". No offence, but do you know in which file the string is? I want Deadly Shadows back :) :erm:
I was actually looking into this for you. You can remove certain parts of the Minimalist project by going to the uninstall page but the way I had to setup the Menu Header seems to prevent another from being slipped in its place. Hrrrrmm. Not sure if I can get a work around for that or not. I'll look into it.

If it is to much trouble, just tell me how can I do it the hard way. No problem if I have to mess up with the files, just tell me which one is responsable. Do not waste your time on my crazy wishes.

I like the Minimalist Project, especially the old style HUD! Great work! Together with John P's Texture Pack, this game rocks!
New Horizon, maybe you could help me a bit with the following?
I've managed to adapt the AI difficulty level so that the feeling is similar like in the thief 1 & 2 games, because I think your settings are too sensitive (the guards see you if the light gem is just a little bit yellow, that's not how the old games worked and is rather frustrating).
However, I couldn't find a way to alter the play styles. I guess I would have to use the editor to change this? The requirements / objectives for 'assassin' would be ok for me, if there wasn't the need to kill 4 opponents (of course it wouldn't be 'assassin' anymore). Could you point me to how to change it back to the original settings?

Essentially, all you should have to do is copy the t3gamesys.t3u file from the system folder in your main installation over to the system folder in the editor. Then you would need to go into the difficulty section and alter the settings for the difficulty level that corresponds to Assassin. I think there may be two or three places where you must do this, its been awhile since I worked on that part of the project.
Then just make sure you have the gamesys package checked off in the editor and save selected packages.
Copy the altered minimalist gamesys back over and you're good to go.
