Minimalist Project 1.4.1 Revised: May 20th, 2005. - by New Horizon

Testing the new changes I had a guard chasing me round and round some barrels and he stopped to get his breath. - This was one of the city watch in the city section. I haven't tried it with other AI yet but all the other minimalist 4 things seem to be working ok.
Also (not to do with minimalist) I noticed when I was tempting a guard to chase me just how stupid they are. I was stood in full light a few sword lengths in front of him. He started to chase me and I instinctively ran into the shadows. When I turned around he was standing where I had been when he saw me and was going through the "I'll find you" routine and checking the corners etc. I mean, I've never had to run from guards because I play stealthily but I don't like that it is so easy to escape from them.

At the cost of possibly alienating some players? Some people may, for example, like the HUD changes you've made, but not necessarily like the gameplay changes.
I'm funny like that. :) Honestly, I'm not concerned about alienating some players. For me, it's not about reaching the largest audience, it's about reaching the "right" audience. I like T3 for what it is... it's kind of all over the place and not really sure what kind of game it's trying to be...when it could have been...right...THERE. :) Fortunately, I'm not a development house and I don't have millions of dollars riding on this. :thumb:

I'm torn - I love some of the changes - wall hugging, loot chime, new fonts, new lockpicking, but I dislike some of the gameplay changes. 3rd person is pretty much useless now, and without 3rd person it's harder to enjoy the graphics - I liked using it to scope out areas, and I loved to watch Garrett blackjack someone from that perspective. Also, I think I'm one of the few people who thought the T3 hud was good (apart from the zoom-overlay, but the sound effects were cool!).
I really appreciate what you've done here, NH, but I think I might just have to venture into the editors guild and change specific things one by one.

Feel free to use the minimalist versions of the T3 files for your work if you're interested. They may make a good starting point for anyone interested in trying to get T3 closer to the feel of the previous games.

NH, you're brilliant!
I've actually had some fun completing the TUTORIAL mission!!!
Thank you for resurrecting Garrett.

Restarted my save file, blackjack issue was fixed. However, I was wondering if someone could possibly try playing the game (with 1.4 installed) using Thiefbot. For some reason, Thiefbot seems to have stopped working on my copy. I have Thiefbot's settings just a little above the default TDS Expert settings, yet the guards still seem to be set to Minimalist's default sensativity.

I made a few minor changes, and I've decided to use NH's mod. I went back to the default hud, and realized I'd forgotten about how big it is.. I tried to make it smaller, but it looked strange (very spaced out) and couldn't get the positions right, so I decided to use minimalist instead. As for changes, I re-enabled third person and removed any movement tweaks and instated the eye-zoom sound effect (no activate sound though). Everything's working pretty well now.
About the difficulty - does anyone seriously think that this is too easy now? I thought the game was tough enough on its own (and I'm pretty good at T1/2). It's quite hard for me now, which is a welcome challenge, but I wouldn't want it harder, that's for certain. Walking seems to make a lot of noise now, and even in T1/2 walking was silent except on tile and metal.
Small error (bug?) - when the arrows move offscreen, the count (# of arrows) is sorta half-showing until you clear it or pull something else out. No big deal though, just thought I'd mention it.

For me, it's not about reaching the largest audience, it's about reaching the "right" audience.
But by providing options, you could still reach the "right" audience while helping even more people enjoy the game. It just seems a bit elitist, is all.
I'm mostly just playing the Devil's Advocate here, though. I enjoy the Minimalist Project for what it is. I tweaked the AI a little further, but I'm otherwise happy with it.
Minimalist is so nice that I can't go back to playing TDS without it, and it seems a shame that some people may not use it because of one or two things that could have been optional.
