Minimalist Project 1.4.1 Revised: May 20th, 2005. - by New Horizon

I've had some time to play through the game a bit more and try to balance the AI sensitivity. Visual acuity seems to be the real bugger. I have found a nice balance for the AI visual acuity that seems to work nicely. They're still going to be more sensitive than if you played without Minimalist 1.4 but I think they're much more reasonable now.
I've uploaded the updated version.
Enjoy.

hey... I found something interesting...
this tweaking things are boring to do, specially when you're crazy to play the game... But I manage to keep the visuals of the HUD plus the things I liked in minimalist, and come with the original playstiles again...
I mean, the restrictions of minimalist were different from the ones in the original version... accidentaly, looking for something here, making alterations there, I manage to restore the original dificulty levels, and the restrictions.
so now, as newbye, I can play thief 3 with it's original settings, but with the HUD and graphical alterations, the sounds of loot collecting... now it's very much like thief 1 and 2 for me.
anyway, I'll try minimalist really after I finish the game... now I want to play the game to follow the story... not for super challenge.
probably when I finish, there will be a minimalist 1.x that fixes little glitches...
anyway, I found a way to make it perfect for me... well, I don't know if it will have a side effect later... but let's go.
thank you...
anyway, I have a question... I know that blackjacking let AIs unconcious, and a stab with the dagger kills, and you get a dead body. but when I see a corpse on the groiund, how can I confirm if its dead or unconcious? just by remembering who I've blackjacked? or is there some indicator?

I installed and tried minimalist... I gotta love it! I have finally found Thief 3!
I have played something called Thief: Deadly Shadows, but I think it had nothing to do with this Thief trilogy I have here... :laff:
Thanks a lot for making this! Can't wait to see if there comes new versions. :)
I have a couple suggestions. The crouching is (still) totally silent.
I think it's kinda stupid when you creep (walk holding ctrl) you go about the same speed as you crouch fast (crouch without holding shift or ctrl), but you make noise. So I see it's kinda unuseful to creep at all when you can crouch the same speed with no noice... :tsktsk:
Now there is no use for shift or ctrl crouching at all.
Don't remember how it was in the older thieves, but I think if you make fast crouching make noice the minimalist age would be even better! :thumb:
The Cut-Purse play style 100% loot could be set to 90%. Dunno, that 100% just sounds a lil too much with 30minutes timer :erg:
Well don't care so much about it coz I think the Ghost style is what the thief playing is all about. :thumb:

Just curious, is a game modded with this still able to use thief bot?

I have been trying to find a work around for the silent crouching issue but the foot steps are hard coded out of the game, meaning they're not easily accessible like the other sounds.
I'm still trying but from what I can see, it's just not possible.

Sure can.

very minor problem - the uninstall file which is created still says "Uninstall_Minimalist_Project_1-3a"

I'll fix that up. Won't cause any functionality issues though, so no worries. :)

Would it work if you took a recording of a crouching sound and put it in where the other sounds are? :erg:

Nope, it's not as simple as that. There is nothing to hook any crouching sounds to at all. They require an sch file but there aren't any for crouching and putting the ones from the editor in the directory doesn't seem to do any good, so the game isn't even being told to look for them. They've been hard coded out of the game and I don't know if there is some unconventional way of telling the game to look for them.
If I could somehow find a way to hook an sch file in there for the crouching sounds, the regular footsteps would simply have their audio lowered.
Here are a list of the sch files needed to get crouching sounds to work.
ft_carpet_pc_crouch.sch
ft_dirt_pc_crouch.sch
ft_gravel_pc_crouch.sch
ft_metal_pc_crouch.sch
ft_rock_pc_crouch.sch
ft_tile_pc_crouch.sch
ft_veg_pc_crouch.sch
ft_water_pc_crouch.sch
ft_wood_pc_crouch.sch
However, if you look inside the SchemaMetafile_HardDrive.csc file, you will likely not find any reference to these files. I haven't. That's why it has been so difficult to get the crouching back in the game.
