Is there a way to minimize the game without locking up the computer? I need to look at walkthrus.
For instance I am stuck on the first level
finding the secret switch in Ember's chambers. I'm not sure which chamber is Embers. Is it the one with the bed at the top of the spiral stairs or is it the room where you can sneak in through a window from outside right at the begining?
On your spoiler question, it's the second one.

On your spoiler question, it's NOT the second one. ;)
You can sneak in through a window, but not right at the beginning. And it's not the first solution either. It's the other bedroom in the second part of the level. On the second floor. (the one with a fireplace)
I figured out the correct bedroom and the switch,
which a bedroom on a lower floor as the last person said and the switch was a torch.
Now it keeps locking up on my while playing. I think I'm going to need the other drivers mentioned in the sticky thread.
Is there a good walkthru around outside of gamefaqs?

Oops, sorry. I missed the part where you specified "right at the beginning".

Hi,
This is from the game "readme.rtf". Located in the game directory.
Mine is "E:\Program Files\Thief - Deadly Shadows".
Quote:
"3. Using <Alt>-<Tab> functionality to minimize and return to the game may lead to instability.
a. <Alt>-<Tab> may cause the mouse to be non-functional within menus. Pressing <Alt>-<Tab> again sometimes corrects this behavior, but can also leads to further instability.
b. If your computer's desktop resolution is the same as the game's resolution, you will not be able to use <Alt>-<Tab> to switch between the game and the desktop. If the resolutions are different, you will be able to switch normally. Using <Alt>-<Tab> during the movie to switch to the desktop, shut down programs and then return to the movie will not necessarily help performance.
Please note: Using <Alt>-<Tab> combination is not supported."
My desktop is set to 1152x864x32/75 and the game is set to 1024x768.
Hope this was helpful,
JimB
My pc: WinXp-Pro-Sp2, Amd64 3000, Dx9c, Visiontek ATI Radeon X1600xge-256, cat driver (6-11_xp-2k_dd_ccc_wdm_enu_37616.exe)
Something else: By default my T3 was running black. Could barely see the options screen. Game play impossible. In "E:\Program Files\Thief - Deadly Shadows\SaveGames\User Options is a file "options.ini". Line Brightness was set to 9 by default. 25 max's the brightness slider in the game UI. Still blackness but much better. Can play it some now. Still can bearly see my surroundings. Set to 50 and changed properties to read only. Game was about washed out. Set to 35, seems ok. May I'll set a little lower-32.
