Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

Very spiffy, with some kick-ass parkour bits. It reminds me of the rooftop chase from HL2 a lot. You didn't have any weapons there, and you don't have any here.
It's intense, but I just have to wonder what the rest of the game is going to be like. Certainly, the entire game can't be about chase sequences and running around rooftops. That'd get monotonous pretty quick.

Some argue that in the game you're invincible to bullets as long as you're moving.

Would that really be a bad idea? It'd be a pain in the ass to suddenly get killed because the gunship got lucky. The pressure is still on- if you screw up, you'll either fall to your death or slow down enough to get perforated.

Yes. Yes, it is a very bad idea.

Not necessarily.

Actually it's a very clever idea -- so long as the player is forced to stay quick to avoid bullets. How else could the player possibly know when to dodge a bullet? It'd be pure luck!

I disagree, and I've bolded the reason. I understand that this is the promoted focus of the game, but I'd much rather be it up to the player to choose their individual approach to combat, including some others than constant running. Not that I imagine that will actually be the case; no, I think the game will most likely indeed try to funnel players into its main mechanic most of the time. Maybe I'm just being anal about it, but I don't like the idea of momentum-related god mode.
As for how would the player "know" when to dodge bullets, I'm not sure I follow. Most first person action games rely on the player attempting to evade getting hit when caught in combat. Could you elaborate?

Well, it´s probably a run-em-up game where the player must run and jump to evade enemies instead of fighting them.
That´s a similar approach from a stealth game where the player is supposed to stay in the dark instead of fighting like Conan. And people never complain that they are forced to be stealthy in a stealth game.
If the gameplay is good I wouldn´t mind the MUST RUN approach.
In fact I can see it as an hibrid of an FPS with Platform with "Need For Speed - Most Wanted".

Don't get me wrong, I'm very interested in the game either way, and I won't mind if Mirror's Edge doesn't provide other takes on combat than "RUN FOREST, RUN!" (though I've noticed in the trailers that you can use weapons you take from your enemies, even if you can't keep them, and I'm hoping this gameplay aspect will be somewhat fleshed out). What I'm not too eager on is the idea of giving the player this sort of crutch by making them invulnerable while they run. I'd rather the game just expect me to dodge hits maybe a bit better than in UT or HL, and the devs not to make all foes as good with firearms as Clint Eastwood characters.
On a sidenote, the game really makes me think of something like a first person Tomb Raider. Minus the jungles, the twin pea-shooters and Lara's most effective marketing attributes.
