A lot of very convenient excuses
Here's to you not becoming a video game developer.

If only more game designers were like you, and able to write a single paragraph about vague ideas that might work in a game. The game industry would be in much better shape.

Isn't it obvious? Cus you can abuse it and it kills the thrill.
And it's more difficult to 'abuse' running really fast so the enemies miss since they can't lead?

Similarly, which of the following would bother your immersion more: being effectively impervious to bullets while you move, or having enemies who aren't all that accurate with firearms? I mean, what does it even matter if they were all gold star sharpshooters if they can't harm you while you run, anyway? It would kind of equate to them missing you with each shot they fired (again, while you were running).
My point was that at its basic level, they're the same thing- run fast, don't get shot. Whether the enemies are sharpshooters or not is irrelevant beyond the fact that getting killed every once in a while because the enemies got lucky wouldn't be much fun at all.

I'm in two minds about that last bit. While it's certainly possible that getting a random lucky bullet send you for the Quickload button may be annoying, I also think that knowing that it is possible would add to the tension of the game and the immersion in its world. Personally, I think I'd have a hard time shaking the feeling that I'm IDDQD as long as I keep throwing one foot in front of the other, and I fear that might end up taking away from my enjoyment by constantly reminding me that I am, in fact, "just playing a game".

Sure, but we don't know yet how challenging/entertaining keeping moving sufficiently quickly will be. It clearly wouldn't work in many games - you could run around in circles in any mildly open space pretty much indefinitely, impervious to all attacks. I'm not sure moving about is going to be that straight forward in Mirror's Edge though. The 'move fast-avoid bullets' mechanic might actually be quite a good one.

This is what I was thinking. Personally, I'd prefer the tension come from the maneuvers required to keep moving than from the guns themselves. The reason for being shot at in this game seems to be to keep you moving, keep the pressure on. In that respect, the purpose of the gunfire is not to kill you when you're doing well, but rather to kill you when you screw up.

I've heard that at the Mirror's Edge press do that happened last week they confirmed January for the PC version, but I haven't seen any official mentions anywhere, so there's still some grains of salt to be taken.
