Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

The latest Burnout had a substantial amount of free DLC, and I still doubt paid DLC is going to have much success on the PC.

Why?? It's like Mario Galaxy in first person!
Your console comparisions won't work on me devil!
Seriously though, it's
random multicolored blocks hanging in space. Can we at least pretend we're parkouring?

I want more games with Mirror's Edge's aesthetic sensibility. I'm going to buy the DLC the day I get the game.

Try World of Goo. Some levels are very artsy.

Parkour != Rooftops and Cityscapes. It's about MOVEMENT, location is immaterial.

Well you have the whole main game to do that. With the DLC they're clearly trying to demonstrate the flexibility of their movement system.
And for the record I'm enjoying Mirror's Edge more than Mario Galaxy. But both have very good aesthetics.

Hm? I don't think I follow - is there some clear-cut benefit to player movement derived from having this psychedelic setting that could not be recreated in a "regular" level. Or do you mean they just couldn't be arsed with other aspects aside from gameplay? Okay, maybe I'm pushing it, if it's purely gameplay-centered it probably does its job well, and I suppose you can find some charm in the colours. Still, you can't deny that it's overall pretty (

Maybe 'flexibility' wasn't the best word; I just meant that the game works as well in a traditional platforming environment as it does in the rooftops it was designed for. It opens up the possibility of having the great controls of Mirror's Edge in a wider variety of level designs (whereas a platformer like Tomb Raider only works in a very specific type of design)

Right, I got it now. However, to be honest, I'd be very surprised if anyone didn't imagine that the base mechanics of the game could be applied in a "traditional platforming environment". Wouldn't know about TR, though - I haven't had my hands on Lara in a long, long time.

I'd said it's more about gimmickry.
