Parkour != Rooftops and Cityscapes. It's about MOVEMENT, location is immaterial.
The problem is that you can't really feel the movement in such an abstract environment. When you're running through the city, you can tell "Holy crap that's a high jump" because you see ten-story building or "I am running fast" because you know how big stuff is. You have nothing to relate your movement to only with orange blocks.

I even recall having that problem in the game proper. In the ship, you drop out of an air duct into some sleeping quarters, but I thought it looked like a huge drop from the vent.
The map pack can solve this by using distinct shapes and colors for each size of block though. It'd just take some memorization of each type of block.

Try World of Goo. Some levels are very artsy.
I've heard of it, when I get the time I'll try it out. Thanks.

I've played the demo, and while it certainly
tries, it comes across as much more laboured and intentionally "artistic". IUnless the levels are drastically different beyond the demo, it lacks the purity of even something like Loco Roco, let alone Mirror's Edge, the aesthetics of which are so pleasing I have to catch my breath every time I open a door and everything is suddenly... green. :D
The best comparison for Mirror's Edge is, honestly, Portal -- from both an artistic and mechanical standpoint. But while noone minded Portal's heavy trial and error, they seem to resent it in ME, a game which is actually MORE satisfying when you finally nail it.

I would definitely disagree with this. The one thing that I find less than successful in
World of Goo is the storyline and the writing, but to me it's aesthetically successful. It's simply a different look to the other games you mention, but I think it holds up well in terms of art design.

Well I don't know how far demo of WoG goes, so I can't comment on that.

very nice. no gta4 at all ;)
now let's wait for the drm specs.
Jason Moyer on 9/12/2008 at 20:14
I'd imagine the DRM will be similar to Spore/Mass Effect/Dead Space, which is fine by me. I'd rather have to activate a game when I install it than have it use my DVD-ROM drive as a dongle.

Wasn't the new EA DRM policy based around "ME call home"? Like every 10 days or so? Or did they come to their senses and roll back to a regular one-time activation?
