Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

I think with a decent map editor it could take off in the same way as Trackmania. I'm not holding my breath though.

I did notice it helped to look down at your feet for jumps, and up at obstacles when sliding under them (to get your timing right), so with a mouse that will be a lot easier when you're running and sliding in quick succession.

SecuROM DetailsRetail version has a limit of 5 simultaneous activations, but ships with a revoke tool.

That's a lot better than last year's crop of EA titles (bar Mercenaries 2 which only had a disc check.). Still, I'll probably just buy the Steam version to save myself the hassle.

I always liked to look down as I'm jumping just because it felt risky and exciting, but it definitely was a bit difficult with the joysticks, trying to recenter yourself. Now I wish they'd release a PC demo, because my laptop seems to run UE3 games generally well, but Mirror's Edge is a bit of a hybrid, and without the special effects and lighting enabled (I couldn't really care less about those cheesy physx bits) it wouldn't be the same.

Acceptable, I guess. After all, I did get Bioshock under roughly the same conditions.

This game is pretty goddamned sexy (If only I could run it with PhysX enabled without my framerate falling over dead when the action gets going). At the same time I can understand some of the criticisms. The level formula is pretty predictable, for instance: 1. Run around for a bit, 2. In Engine Cutscene, 3. COPS! RUN SOME MORE! WITH FIGHTING! And repeating the same little section a whole bunch of times because I miss a jump, or honestly can't figure out where they want me to go, thus getting killed by the cops is kind of frustrating. Which is of course immediately made up for by the satisfaction of figuring it out and running smoothly through that section.
And the actual platforming works damn near perfectly. There are occasional glitches, like trying to jump to a horizontal pole to swing off it, jumping to high and landing on top of the pole, but the thrill of hitting a smooth run, leaping, rolling, wall running, sliding, etcetera without breaking stride is pretty fucking cool.

I just picked up a PC copy from GAME. Gonna install it later, should have some impressions by tonight.
On a related note, if my local store is any indication, the PC version isn't exactly flying off the shelves. You see, it's actually not on the shelves yet. Right at the entrance, the front Xbox rack was packed with Mirror's Edge copies, but the PC section still held plenty of Mass Effect, Lord of the Rings and Age of Conan, or all things, but none of this fresh release. Even the clerks didn't know they had it, one of them went down to check. A very different, albeit not entirely unexpected, story from my last purchase, Fallout 3, when at 10 AM people were queued up and the boxes weren't just on the shelves, but plenty of them right next to the tills, for all platforms.
Edit: Maybe I'm just reading too much into things, game.co.uk has it listed as a top seller for the PC section.

Installing it now. While I'm thinking about it, is there a song that Benny Benassi hasn't remixed in the past 6 years?

Having read the first half of the comic series (1-3), I have to say this: Why didn't they incorporate some of this into the game? You get to learn more about Faith's parents (Erika and Abe Conners), a little bit of family and city backstory, there is even a part of the city called "Old Town", which is an area that is gritty, alive and wonderful. It fills in some of the holes in the story, and i'm guessing the latter half of the series will fill in the rest.

Just bought it yesterday and probably played halfway through it.
This game is not as fast as they make it out to be in the trailers. Its still good fun though. I have some qualms but I'll probably do a mini-review thread.
