Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

That the PC crowd cares more about Mirror's than the console one did? :p And, yeah, legal copy here.

Ha, I'm fine with that message. So long as they realize that somebody appreciates it. Kind of ironic, that Mirror's Edge is really a console game in the classic sense.
Incidentally, it actually runs pretty well on my laptop (Geforce 8600M GT with fancy GDDR3 option). I set the graphics quality on highest, and the texture quality on medium/high (I couldn't really tell the difference above 'lowest', except in the framerate) and can play it at 1440x900 comfortably. PhysX and AA off, of course.
Since I already own it on 360, I don't see a huge reason, apart from the novelty of a new control scheme, to buy it again. But if an editor is ever released, I'll be first in line.

I wouldn't count on an editor coming to soon. I'd really like it for them to prove me wrong, but I rather expect that EA will be going for milking the extra-content-cow exclusively, at least for a while. If maps are to be the only or a great deal of the stuff their DLC will consist of (at least that's the impression I got), if they released a full editor right away, wouldn't they be faced with the risk of the community providing fully-equivalent, yet free, alternatives to their own product? It's not like with Bethesda, who are to launch DLC that will "continue the official storyline" or stuff like that.

I couldn't imagine trying to play Mirror's Edge with a gamepad. With a mouse/keyboard the movement is totally flawless, though.
I'm only through like 2 chapters because I can't stop doing time trial mode. Trying to find alternate routes or nail a certain section a little more cleanly is addicting as hell.

This game is losing points for me with the forced confrontation that seems to be more prevalent the further you get into it. I love the parts where you're being chased and the parts where you're solving jumping puzzles but the "let's throw 3 guys directly into your path with machine guns and the only way past is to kill them" shit is pissing me off. Early in the game it's ok since you can basically always avoid them by using cover and evasion, but the areas where it's literally impossible to progress without a fight are horrible.

I'm not sure there are any areas where it's "literally impossible" (well, there's one, but it's not quite the same) to avoid combat. There are a lot of subtle routes that you'd probably never figure out without using the time trials -- and if you know them, you can avoid a fight.

I remember in the warehouse where the only way to get to where you need to go is across a metal bridge, and on the bridge are two troopers with assault rifles. I tried the pacifist route (having been given the impression that you are screwed if you attempt combat against more than one enemy) but couldn't find any other way.

That is true Aja but the combat is still pretty much forced on you the first time through which is a shame. I don't think anybody wants to be running around in circles avoiding 4-5 cops while they try and figure out where you are supposed to be going. Since I was determined to get 'Test Of Faith' on my first playthrough certain sections, the carpark for example, took me quite a while and understandably most people would just take a gun and clear the way rather than subjecting themselves to more trial and error.
A bonus is that it really does make replaying it quite fun, as you blaze past the areas that troubled you the first time.

Man, there needs to be some sort of 'Report Exploit' function on the leaderboards. There's some sort of bug where if you jump off the seam between two objects it launches you
ridiculous distances, and that's how people are getting these stupid 32 seconds and 200 metre times on some of the courses. That takes a huge chunk of the fun out of it. [edit](
http://on-mirrors-edge.com/forums/viewtopic.php?id=2717) Looks like DICE is aware of it. Glitch will be fixed and leaderboards audited after a patch.
We also totally need a TTLG friends leaderboard.

(

Some of those motions are funny. But it does kind of show that Mirror's Edge doesn't work so well in third person.

Agreed. Anybody up for a little contest?
