Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

I didn't really think the story in ME was particularly vague.

What were the Runners etc rebelling against? What exactly is wrong with the current government (sure you could draw the usual 1984-esque conclusions but there is little in the game to support that)? What was in the packages? Who were they for? What was the deal with Faith's parents? We're obviously not talking about 'Lynch vague' here, perhaps underdeveloped might be a better term, and I'm not saying I would want complete answers to all of these questions but leaving all of these pretty much completely open left the overall narrative feeling hollow. This was especially a problem when characters started double-crossing one another. It's hard to get caught up in the character's struggles when you don't know what they are struggling for other than a vague notion of the usual sci-fi dysotopian conflict.

Okay. This trial and error gameplay is kind of pushing me to the limit.

*And in a flash Scots' PS3 magically reverts back to a blu-ray machine.*

where to start? oh, I know, walking into a room full of people unloading machine guns at me and what the fuck am I supposed to do here, fight or run, oh god I died a billion times, where the hell do I run even the hints don't help, oh shit, I died for the nine billionth time, how about I fight, okay let's try, fuck I mistimed the slo-mo gun grab and got fucked up for the ten billionth time, then it's into a car park full of more dudes unloading on me and despite it taking five shots from me to kill them they seem quite happy sniping me with fully automatic machine guns a car park away, then fucking hell there are apparently evil runner dudes and they fuck my shit up like you wouldn't believe, so you've got to run or you'll get fucked up beyond all recognition, except if you mistime a tiny step/jump/hop/skip you're fucked again, then when you take that and put on rooftops and multiply it by like a factor of a fucking gazillion where zip lines get missed, double-jumps get mistimed, you hit a fence instead of vault it, you zig instead of zag and kersplatcrunch I'm on the pavement or my face is in my ass after these ninja dudes whip my ass again and then I'm chasing some chick and it's the same shit all over again.
But hey, when you nail it, it feels good for about a whole twenty or thirty seconds.

In a word, run.

YOU GUYS
man you all go on about how hardcore you are and then you get hit with one moderately difficult game and suddenly it's pansy-town
It's not the game's fault if you can't time your jumps. This has been how things have gone since the days of Super Mario Bros, and no-one complained about that. At least Mirror's Edge always places you only a few steps from where you failed. Fuck up the last two seconds of a COD4 mission and you've got another 20 minutes ahead of you, assuming you don't die again.
There were two rooms in Mirror's Edge that were genuinely frustrating. As far as it goes, that ratio is very favourable compared to ME's peers.

I actually had almost no trial-and-error moments with this game. Difficulty in executing my plan, yes(the server room for example, or that... garage place. I don't remember the name of the level), but not trial and error.

I realize this doesn't apply to CoD4 specifically but there are such things called the quickload/quicksave keys...
