Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

It might be part of his plan of not letting you sleep at night comfortably.

I'm pretty sure there were some extra moves in there, I managed to drop down from above on some enemy and knock him out that way, all with a custom animation and all, and there's some impossible to create move where you grab one enemy and kick some other.
for me it was all in the disarms though.
Yeah you can drop on people from above and one or two other things. But like the disarms they always feel very context heavy, which was exactly the feeling they managed to avoid with the running tricks.

No time for a thoughtful post Muzman, but I think you may have made the wrong decision regarding disarms. (Out of curiosity, Thirith, how did you approach combat?)
I chose the opposite strategy: using disarms exclusively. And I thought that combat flowed really nicely. The main part of combat was choosing a route to a guard that didn't expose me: once I'd approached a guard, the disarm maneuver takes 1-2 seconds, possibly followed by 2-3 seconds shooting, and then I'd throw the gun away and repeat. Honestly, the actual combat routine took five seconds tops, and integrated really nicely with the acrobatic part of the game.
I think you might be surprised how much the combat sections of the game improve (and flow nicely) if you spend a little bit of time practicing the disarm maneuver - especially if you learn to do it without slowing time.

This is totally true. I never used slowmo since I thought it was just distracting. Sure I died a couple of times, but it's really more satisfying to get rid of 3, 4 enemies fast, out of one go, without them even touching you.

The only fight I really enjoyed was the huge spoiler one (basically the only one you can't avoid). It's simple as hell, you just keep dodging and parrying, but it's still fun.
I also enjoyed the few times where you can really build up a good run and land right on top of someone, doing basically a dropkick disarm. That's how I usually do the 'waiting for the elevator' level.

When I get around to replaying Mirror's Edge, I'm definitely hoping to get better at the disarm manoeuvre. If I don't just faff around in the Time Trials, that is.

Disarming becomes extremely frustrating on hard, as the timing isn't very intuitive (you need to click well before you execute the motion instead of at the same time) and it doesn't feel like your velocity and distance from the foe is taken into account very well. At least I find the timing to involve annoying guesswork more than anything else, so on hard I just straight up beat people up.

I realize I'm a bit late. But thanks for this thread guys. After reading in here a bit I got my copy off steam and absolutely love it! Though there are really frustrating moments when you just can't figure out where to go and everyone is shooting at you. And I hate those ikarus cops...

This is definitely my experience. I didn't care for disarming on normal as it was. On hard I think they narrowed the window of opportunity, I guess you could call it. The timing seems out of synch with that of most other manouvres.
I never really used slo-mo either, except against Rugburn on hard. I'm starting to that is a skill that could be fun to incorporate. Moves like the jump to the crane right at the start are apparently possible, it's just hard to get the mousing right at normal speed. But there's not a lot of call for it that I can see.

Bit of a Freudian slip there, chief. :p
