Mirror's edge, looks promising. - by Fragony

While I thought that Bioshock really suffered without an inventory, I don't see how this game would gain anything by having an inventory, unless there's more to it than fast paced running away. The idea should be that you wouldn't have time to stick your head in your backpack while being chased by a bunch of Parkoury NPCs.
Which, incidentally, is the one thing that hasn't really shown up in the released footage. That is, a bunch of people running on the rooftops, trying to grab you before you get away.

But BioShock didn't need an inventory. You need to need one to have one iyswim.

So it was fine with you that you couldn't tell what junk you were carrying around for the You-Invent machines unless you went and found one? Or that you, to quote Yahtzee 'Scarfed down any food you came across like you had some wasting illness'?

Those would be legitimate points if it wasn't so easy. But the Vita Chambers make it really, really easy, and there are loooooads of bits for the upgrades - I easily got every upgrade I wanted.
Now if BioShock really was the spiritual successor to SS2 it would have been harder and more complex and therefore would certainly have needed an inventory.

1987 called, they want you back.
He's got a point, though. Have you ever considered taking up a hobby like dancing?

Bioshock and SS are the rare types of FPS with strong RPG elements that really need an inventory.
A game like Mirror´s Edge seems to draw it´s strenth on it´s fast pacing. The only type of inventory that would make sense here is a quick glimpse while you scroll your items with the middle mouse button or just push the hotkey (just like Half-Life 2).
I also read at their forums that carrying a weapon around will give penalties to your movement skills.
For example, you can´t climb some pipes if you are carrying heavy weapons. So you have to decide the perfect balance of agility vs firepower.

that sounds intriguing. but i'm still not sure about their "pathfinding" solution.
but it sure looks like a kickass game (like AC did). I could really enjoy this if it is either kept:
- void of any real big story, e.g. episodic and short but hugely replayable with VAST difficulty options
- full of story but therefore with more than just the "run away" gamemechanic and more interactivity with the environment apart from just jumping around on it............will I be able to open doors ????? (cod4 anyone)

And a new interview...

It´s mostly about how it will work on the ps3 technology. But apart from that:
Quote:
VideoGamer.com: Will there be shooting elements, or guns that you can fire?
SD: There are guns but they're tools. Imagine trying to do this running with a big automatic rifle - not going to happen. So, what you're able to do is you're able to take weapons off of people if you can disarm them in the right way. You can use whatever is in the clip but you can't run very fast, you can't do all the things that you really want to do. So it's more of a tool to get through things, blow open a section of window, take out one person, throw it away and keep moving.
The game isn't about combat, the game is about movement. That's why it's a tool. Battlefield, we love Battlefield, we love the success of it, but it's both a blessing and a curse, because when you talk about DICE and people are like, oh yeah Battlefield I get it, but at the same time it's like, oh but then you must be doing a first person shooter. No we're not doing a first person shooter. This is an action adventure game and it's really about the movement.
If Thief is a sneak-em-up then this seems to be the run-em-up.
