I was thinking about that, but didn't have any numbers. It doesn't surprise me that there'd be a lot of copies around. The problem for them I suppose is I'd wager only a tiny fraction of those were bought at full price.
But this goes to the stupidity of game releases and prices and so on. This game and Red Faction Guerrilla spring to mind. They had a really really long tail. Still selling too.
But more so than a lot of games it seemed like they gave up on it after a couple of months and were dumping it for 5 bucks. Years later it's obvious it has an audience, they just weren't day one. Maybe if things weren't $90 or so to start with you could keep that release price up on more unusual games for longer instead of freaking out.

That aside, from what I've seen so far, this game is kind of meant to be a linear, speedrun game. Get from point A to point B fast, and there's a couple of options for doing so. So far, the exhilaration in playing is trying to get your shit done fast, before the cops close in, with very little room for error. But open world? Sounds like A) it would totally change the gameplay and B) it would be a logistical nightmare for level design
I think we're all waiting to see how they plan to do this.
That said, once you finish the game, start doing the time trials. You get to see some of the levels from the point of view of multiple routes, and it's very interesting. I'm convinced there's some good gameplay to be had by visiting levels several times in different ways. That's how I'm currently imagining the open world to work: you're going through the same largish areas several times, but it's going to play differently depending on where you started and where you want to get to. But you knows ... it might be nothing like that at all.
Thanks for the video btw. Crazy stuff. You could pretty much win an evolution argument on the strength of that video and some of the ones linked to it. :p

… Nice shoes!
But you missed grabbing the Blue Water Dish (secret item) at 0:39 for bonus points.

Actually, that's not me. I am working on a parkour video though that shows me jumping for a ledge and missing by several feet, then being racked by barbed wire, and screaming in fear as I freefall towards the city's streets. Should have that up later today sometime.
