I have a Audigy 2 at Windows 7 64-bit and it works all fine. I would wonder if the Vista support is so much worse than W7.
Alchemy is freeware, so if you had to pay for it you've been diddled.

What error is the log showing on Thief 2?

You're right, ALchemy for Audigy is now free. It wasn't a couple years ago, judging by various forum posts.
There is no error log at all in my Thief2 DIR. Alchemy generates a log when it initializes, which it isn't doing. So far Thief2 is the only game that I've tried that isn't working properly with.
I imagine a newer version of alchemy works just fine with T2, but as I'm using the universal version i'm still at 1.00.8.
