I dunno what it is with Half-Life 1 and singleplayer horror mods in recent years, but it seems like ever since They Hunger there's been a slow trickle of them. Probably the best one is (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/afraid-of-monsters-dc/) Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut, but (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/mistake-1) Mistake -1 came out recently.
For those who don't remember, the original (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/mistake) Mistake was a (very) brief horror mod released about a year ago, set entirely within an asylum. The story was minimal and it had music and SFX largely ganked from Silent Hill 2, but even with that and the low amount of combat it was quite spooky. Well, apparently a prequel is out, and it does some things not even AoM does. Very creepy stuff- BUT.
I'm stuck at a certain point. I've passed some
body bags, and the path behind me is now blocked. The path goes past a bent roller door, and into a dingier section, at the far end of which are three doors, two are locked and one is bricked up, with fencing on either side. I can't find any grating or other escape. I found a pistol clip in a nearby room but no gun. I'm thinking of starting over, unless someone can point me in the right direction.
P.S. I should mention that Mistake -1 uses the same opengl.dll as (
http://www.moddb.com/mods/Paranoia) Paranoia.

Downloading the mod as we speak.

I figured out where I went wrong- my goldfish memory had immediately forgotten an important clue. Mod's pretty good, though it's not downright terrifying like AoM.

AoM made me shit my pants no less than 5 times in 30 minutes. No fucking way am i playing it again :(
OH GOD THEY'RE EVERYWHERE

AoM sits on my hard drive. I saved right before the first enemy. I missed the pistol on my way to the generator.
Yeah. I'm screwed.

If you're quick and do the "zombie two-step" (move in, STAB STAB STAB, step back) you can knife it to death.

Do these work on non-steamed hl1?
Also do i need to patch the game up to whatever? If so I am guessing that might be quite difficult, finding all the patches anymore :erg:
I think generations 3 has at least some patches on the disk though. I can't remember.
So yer, any half life mods that play uniquely like this sound interesting.

Its aimed at those who payed for Halflife 1.

I had a 1998 release copy of HL1. I inputted my key into Steam and received not only HL1, but also OpFor and Blue Shift for free. Thanks Valve! :thumb:
FYI The old Won version of HL1 is outdated rubbish. HL1 "v1.6" supports today's high resolutions and horiz+ widescreen FOVs.

As Eva said, put your CD key into Steam and you get the Steam version
fo' free. Along with the expansions. Some mods require Steam, so you might as well do it.
I wish Valve would make the CD key thing more obvious. I see a lot of people bitching about having to "buy HL1 again" when they seriously don't.
Also, Eva, don't forget the high-quality soundtracks for HL1/Op4.
