This railworks DLC pack is on sale for $200 US.
(

It's at 81% off... the full price?
$1073.35
$1073.35I thought it was a glitch at first I am not a super maths man, but from the quantity of $20 packs in that list, it could add up to that astronomical price. I can see spending that much on real model trains (a hobby of my own when I was 10 years old) over the lifetime of the hobby, but ... but ...
On the other hand I have heard legends of WOW fans who multibox six accounts, which at $15/month would come to $1080 for the year. (But at least the Railworks fans can get it at this awesome sale price, and only have to pay once! :P)
How much cash per year seems like a reasonable expense for a hobby? I guess it all comes down to income... some hobbies are pretty pricey, after all. I have no idea how expensive tickets to sporting events are, but I can see them getting pretty high up there.
Has anyone ever bought 20 full priced ($60/40) single player games in a single year?

When FEAR came out I bought the collectors version because it came on DVD and I was pissed most companies still didn't switch to DVD from CD. so it cost me like 80 bucks, then I bought Extraction point for the full 50, then when Perseus mandate came out it cost 50. So I spent nearly 200 dollars on that game. Now you can buy all 3 bundled with Fear 2 for like 25 bucks.... way to go me.
As for hobbies. I play guitar and I play Paintball. probably 2 of the most expensive hobbies I can think of. My amplifiers alone (just the 2 of them) cost over $6000, granted that is a one time buy as well. If I could I'd buy / build myself a new guitar every year, which would run me between 1K - 2K. Or less if I don't go for everything I would want in one.
I spent over 1000 dollars last year on 2 paintball guns + a few hundred more on accessories, like the belt to hold your paint pods and your tank. A remote air line, Magazines for my Mag-feed, (~ 35$ each and I have a dozen of them) A tactical vest to hold my hydration bladder, mag pouches, air bottles etc. And to top that off, it costs anywhere from 10 - 40 dollars for a field fee to play + 40 - 60 dollars for a case of paint ( 2000 shots ) so it'll cost you at least 30 bucks to go play every time you play. more often than not about 70, because you buy a case when you go.
Gaming is not my most expensive hobby, even when you think about stuff like upgrades. I spent a total of about 1600 on my current computer over the course of 2 years, and I hadn't bought anything to upgrade it with for several years prior. Mind you I don't MMO.. screw that. And I DONT buy microtransacitons or DLC that doesn't add real content.

MMOs were never that expensive. A typical subscription is what, 120 bucks per year?
Well unless you hit the item shop.

Looking at my iRacing order history, I spent $303.35 on subscription fees and another $285.61 on content. That doesn't include the $300-400 in content I received for free as a beta tester or the huge pile of content I haven't bought since I lost interest a year or so ago. Also, $300 for a G25. If they ever get things sorted to a point where I renew I'll be looking at $100 for a year subscription and another $200 or something for content. Yeah.

If you consider that I bought the FO3 collector's edition for $80, then the GOTY edition for another $50 (though you could make the argument that I was buying the DLC, since there were 5 of them at $10 each), that's $130 right there.
Given that I'm thinking of re-buying the GOTY edition over Steam so I don't have to fiddle with the discs, that's another $30 on top of everything else, holy shit.
I'm actually kind of glad FONV is Steam-only. It'll save me money in the long run.

So any arguments from people who are not gullible dolts?

I think maintaining a Warhammer miniature addiction could be extremely expensive. High-priced Warhammer brand figurines (official only, please!), high-priced Warhammer brand paint, high-priced Warhammer brand terrain (or Dwarven Forge, which is bits of very expensive cardboard) and potentially a lot of extras. Or trying to assemble a killer, tournament-ready Magic: the Fleecing deck.
In comparison, a MMORPG addiction is fairly affordable for poor people.

About $2000 on maintenance/insurance for my motorcycle, a similar amount is spent on books, games, movies and snacks combined. Or at least, that's how I've laid out my budget.
MMOs are indeed fairly inexpensive as far as hobbies go, if you don't play multiple ones at the same time and don't spend a ton on the ingame stores (if any). Heck, if you're actually addicted to a MMO, you're much less likely to spend money on other games, making it a $120-180/year (+ISP) cost for all your gaming needs. 2-4 new release games a year isn't a whole lot, unless your budget is really tight. Smoking is probably more expensive.

You can make a deck that'll fare well in local tournaments for less than $50, but high level play decks often go above $500 (mostly due to running 3-4 of a (

Music is pretty much the only thing where I'll pour money without counting. In 2010, I bought a midi keyboard and a controller for ableton, I finally stopped renting my oboe and bought an used but pro instrument, I kept paying music lessons and buying a lot of CDs plus the occasional ultra-rare vinyl record, amounting to roughly 5000-6000€.
In comparison, my gaming budget for 2010 was around 150-200€. I don't think I would buy anything that calls itself 'DLC' on principle, same thing goes for game subscriptions.

I don't even play Magic and I still lol'd at how ridiculous this card is. What next, a card that lets you punch the opponent in the face?
