Hmm, I don't think it ruins anything, but for me, the env_map is rather useless. But not useless enough to remove. Dilemma?

WTF does this even mean?
"Oh waitress! This butter on my toast is useless!"

Oh haha...
I meant it works fine and all, but really, it just ruins the look of everything and every mission. Not too shabby, but absolutely USELESS.
Not unless someone were to create a mission that would work alongside the env-map. Why, it could even be used for faux-reflective surfaces like stainless steel and whatnot (Or give a shiny gloss to the surface of ice. Endless possibilities...). But, as far as water goes, it's USELESS.
Again, don't you have some other thing to be doing? Like making a new TP update or whatever...

Well I think it looks better, water happens to be reflective.
ZB is pretty spot on, you have two sandwiches, one with butter (which you dont like), another without. Still you're standing there complaining about the butter and is even having a "dilemma" about it :weird:

Alright, let's can this right here. I'll admit "useless" isn't really the word. Gratuitous is a better word for it. But y'know, maybe there will be a certain env_map design down the line that will be a bit more ambiguous. And maybe then, I'll warm up to the idea of env_maps representing reflective water. But not right now, it's just not adding anything for me.
Also, this sandwich analogy is irrelevant. So what if the butter is useless? At least butter adds flavor. Like I said, this just feels unnecessary at the moment, and at best it doesn't match anything even if I try not to look at it. Maybe for specific FMs, but otherwise no.
Otherwise, I think this stuff looks great. You have the skill to make this stuff, even if it isn't the style that people expects in Thief. But then, this is your project, and I'll only say that I'm simply condemning the env_map alone. Everything else is great, so yeah...

The word is "dislike". You dislike it. Stop trying to bring any level of nuance to what you say-- your Martian grasp of English isn't up to it. Trust us on this.

Alrighty, there. You hit the nail on the head, so good for you. And yes, I admit I try to over-embellish shit. I still don't think you should throw away the main point though, which is the fact that this env-map box could use a different design. I was just playing one of Catherine's classic FMs, where tons of open space is never enough, and the water there, when around equally bright objects like torches and whatnot, suited the damn env-map fine -- Proving my point.
But thank you for at least attacking me on my own bad spelling. Mostly because I am not a trained writer. Heck, I'm barely that (A depressed has-been writer who, years ago, could write pretty well but gave up and now look at this load of dribble. When you stop doing something like me, you lose the talent)... But I at least watch and read enough so you can say I'm better read than my writing attests.
Happy with my retort, Mr. Rosenfield?

vurt, there's lava in both of the Lost City levels, miss9.mis for T1 (The Lost City) and miss15.mis for T2 (Kidnap).
T1 final mission has lava too :D

I managed to find a slight bit of lava on the Sabotage at Soulforge mission (cheated myself to the mission), but it doesnt seem to be the correct one, it's not really animated. If someone has a save of a proper location with animated lava i'll give it a try directly :) I'm currently replaying the game but its gonna take a while before i get to miss15.
