if you want less repeating patterns you can up the size of the texture. Edit l4in.mtl and change
terrain_scale 128
to
terrain_scale 256
you can try 512 too, but i bet that won't look very good.

Ah, that did the trick. And it looks alot better now! :thumb:
So yep. Good work there, vurt.

Is it possible to generate a ".mtl" file for every mission? For example "miss1.mtl......."

I don't think it's possible to create .mtl's for missions no, that would be a .dml i believe, but i don't know if it could change a specific texture, i will look into that, if i find a way i'll PM you.

That would be great :) your work is awesome !!
vurt on 20/10/2012 at 15:46
It doesnt work, unfortunately. .dml's only works for objects.

What are you talking about, the NewDark package (System Shock 2 patch SS2 2.4) includes .dmls for missions! I imagine you can specify all kinds of mission parameters in there to override the default mission settings.

Sure, just not the texture palette in a mission, the water textures (which we are discussing) are a part of that.
From "dbmod-sample.dml":
"A mission dml can only affect concrete objects"

Here's an alternative version of the lava which is less processed (it's a bit more "clean" and has less artifacts so its better suited for terrain scale 256), it's also more yellow than the previous version (scroll up to compare to the old version).
Inline Image:
http://piclair.com/data/hbqd4.jpgI prefer the older version myself, but maybe someone likes this one better. I used
terrain_scale 256 for this image (old version above is @ 128)
See first post for d/l..

I found some more lava (molten metal I think, actually) at the very start of T2's MISS4.MIS. There is a switch inside the generating station which opens a window to let you see it. The animation is minimal. It looks pretty static with just an occasional bubble.
