Suddenly I'm glad I don't have dial-up anymore . . . that's just insane! Even I can compress sound files better than that! :erm:

Agreed, especially since I had to pay 1c/minute back when I had dialup...

This mission has 37MB of speech files for that one NPC.
Looks like they just copied the whole voice set for one of the guards from TDS. That really strikes me as just plain unnecessary, bordering on irresponsible.
(for some reason I originally assumed the mission size was due to the briefing).

Not only unnecessary, but many are wasted, even if the author carefully wrote a new schema file, as many of the T3 voice parts don't have corresponding triggers in T2; they also have more lines per trigger than T2 in general, and you really only need 2 or 3 in some cases instead of 4 or 6.
I speak on this from experience, having written T2 schemas for T3 Hammer voice parts for the HMDK - I probably used less than half the available lines. In his/her defense, though, sorting them out and copying just the right ones out of T3 was a pain in the ass. I did it once and then wrote batch files to do it for the other two voices.
It's a shame really, this is a very atmospheric mission from what I've seen of it (it should be obvious that I like B&W missions :p), but suffers as BR said from an absence of testing - I understand the pressure of the deadline, but you have to plan the testing into your schedule. I had two alphas and three betas on What Lies Below, and I'm sure it would have really sucked if I hadn't bothered doing that.

I gotta second that. I loved this mission - At first I really didn't like it and stopped playing pretty quickly mostly just due to the begining and the crampedness of it. It seemed really unfinished, probably because the author ran out of time. But something about it kept haunting me and my brain gradually filled in the gaps between the mission style/intro artwork/and story and I've come to think this mission could be really awesome. I honestly think with another month of development/beta testing this could be one of the most stylish/original missions ever made (and I don't say that lightly).

Yes, but what exactly happened? I didn't get it. Was it
Garrett who got captured, or the kidnapper? The art was so vague that I couldn't tell...

I didnt knew the "hero" was Garrett, cuz why should Garrett save a litle Girl? And the guy on the End Video didnt looked like Garrett
Ohh... Edit:
I like Black & White Missions and "Last Caress" is great!

Which is why I didn't get who was who there.
And I don't know about you, but Garrett, as I understood him, would save a little girl if he could.
