There was a way to get the widow Moira to give you a gift bottle of wine along with a thank you note. I've tried everything I can think of to get it again, and can't get it this time. Is it something that was removed with the 1.1 patch? I don't remember if I had installed the patch or not last time when I got it. I left the inheritence, I took her a bottle of wine (and not,) I also did the mission without knocking out or harming anyone. I also, started over and played the game without the editor exe (t3main.exe,) in case that broke it. I don't really want to uninstall the patch and play through again just to find out. Anyone know what's going on?
Thank you :)

You must not take her money from the chest.
1> Give her a bottle of wine.
2> Find the Captains stash.
3> DO NOT TAKE THE MONEY>

I did all that and only got a note for some guy to kill me. No guy though. There may be more to it than that. Or it's slightly screwed up for some people.

Ok, sorry about the delay. Had to play myself all the way back to that point. Did a full removal and re-install. Did "NOT" install the special t3main.exe needed to play fan missions, and tried it again. I tried doing the mission before the underground mission to get the glyph key, and tried doing the mission after that one as well. I made sure not to harm anyone, not even gassing them. The only thing I didn't do was play it through without the v1.1 patch. What I did:
1) I gave the widow the wine.
2) I opened the chest and looked at the bag of gold
3) I did "NOT" take the gold
4) I opened and closed the chest over and over, just in case (did that the 3rd time through.)
5) No wine, no note, nothing
Maybe I'm remembering wrong. When and where exactly does the wine & note appear? I thought it was in Garrette's home right after the mission. About the only thing I can think of to try would be to "not" give her the wine, take the gold, and see if I get the hit man & death notice.

You don't
get any wine IIRC, you only have to bring one bottle of those three in the kitchen up to her tower room. Then you receive a thank you letter later, just have a look at those videos (German, though):

Edit: I was wrong, apparently there is a bottle worth 150 in gold.

The "gift" and the note appear at your apartment after you finish the mission.
You don't get it in the Captain's mansion, only afterwards.

Ok, got it to appear.
There are only 2 things I did different, I'll check them out and post again later. Those 2 things are:
1) I left the key on Edwina's table, and
2) I gave her the bottle of wine last (just before getting into the secret room.) Before, I would do it first, as it allowed me to get into the dining room and the kitchen (and back out again,) without the servant wandering the dining room (she's the one Ginny is chewing out in the central area when you first go there.) If I was quick, I could get into the kitchen, get the bottle, and get back out before the servant ran into the dining room. Then I would continue on my normal route, which involved zoning back to the other area, clearing a bunch of stuff, then zoning back again before triggering the secret door, and racing to get through before it closes. I'm thinking that maybe by zoning out then back, it cleared whatever flag was set by giving her the wine. I sort of doubt it was the key.
I'm going to replay the mission again (later, I'm sort of burned on the mission right now,) and take the key, and give her the wine last. I'm also going to test out the "don't even gas anyone" assumption I made, by gassing someone before ending the mission. I usually don't play "ghost" mode, but I like perfect stats, so gas arrows and gas bombs are my friends :D

Here's how to get the thank you note and the gift wine (it appears in your apartment after the mission)
1: Drop a bottle of wine from the kitchen on the table next to the widow.
2: Drop a cup from the kitchen as well.
3: DON'T take the widow's money from the chest.

Ok, got it solved. It seems that if you zone more than once after delivering the wine, the game forgets that you did so. Went around and knocked everyone out, (one way or another,) even killed a guard, took everything (except the inheritence,) delivered the wine, and everything was fine. No assassin even if I take the inheritence, and get the wine/note if I leave it. Even doing multiple save/loads after delivering the wine doesn't seem to effect it. However, if I deliver the wine, then zone out then back (then out again just before leaving the mission,) then it forgets that I did so. Assassin appears if I take the money, and no wine/note if I leave it. Another quirky bug with the game I guess :(
Also, though I think I read about this somewhere else, the note asking the assassin to stake out Garrette's appartment is always there, even if there is no assassin, or if there is the gift wine/note.
p.s. I never dropped a cup from the kitchen on the table, just a bottle of wine.

You don't need a cup (who drinks wine from cups anyway?) because the script reacts to three bottles only.
