-When you're playing Down in the Bonehoard and make too much noise, and you spend the rest of the level running from the fire guy who is relentless in hunting you down.

The first time I encountered the spectral Hammerite Priests. I heard them before I saw them. Freaky backwards talking freaked me out.

The moment I first saw a puppet running by in the distance in the Cradle (I thought 'did I just imagine that?'), I knew I was in for quite the ride.
The moment in Thief 2 when I found out the hard way you can't knock out helmeted guards
The moment I first met Maw Spiders
The moment I realized you can't just 'kill' Constantine
The moment I found the little Big World
The moment I finished the Thieves Guild mission (ugh...what a relief)
The moment I did something I shouldn't have in Undercover, and blew my cover
The moment I found out you can destroy mechanist bots with water arrows
The moment you realize flies can damage you
Many, many others......

-The feeling of satisfaction you get when you finish a level never getting spotted, never knocking out any guards, and getting every piece of loot.
-Discovering an alternate route through a level you never knew about even after 5+ playthroughs.

The music from Soulforge and parts of Markham's Isle. One of the best ambient/atmosphere tracks ever IMO. Disappointing that it doesn't appear in the GOG extras soundtrack.
Getting stuck in The Sword trying to find the entry to the last floor. I spent ages wandering around a whole lot of weird (the laughter, upside down rooms, passageways that appeared to lead into outer space, much more), and it got to me in the end.
And one from new Thief. The moment when you are descending in the lift and you see layers of remains of past Cities, and Garrett says something like 'Each city built upon the bones of the last. I bet they each have their own stories to tell'. Well he said something that made me infer that amongst these ruins were the ruins of the City from classic Thief.
Finishing ThiefDP, sitting back in my chair, and reflecting that I have just played one of the greatest games I have ever played.

Forgot to mention, when I first played ThiefDS I had no idea whether Garrett would still be voiced by the same actor (didn't know his name at that point). There was a sense of relief when Garrett started speaking and it was "my" Garrett.

I had this same moment when I finished Thief 2 (I played it before Thief 1). As I was playing through it the game was in my top 5 favorite games, but the minute I walked out of Soulforge I knew it was my all-time favorite.

ThiefDP was in my top three by the end. The other two being Deus Ex and System Shock 2. I know that there is a large overlap between these three games in terms of studios, the individuals who worked on them, the actual gameplay. The people involved certainly know how to create my kinds of games :)

Yep, Deus Ex is in my top 3 too. I'm ashamed to say, however, that I never got around to playing System Shock 2. I guess I just found it kind of intimidating, and there have been other games that took my attention away from it. I'll get to it someday though.
