Monastery of st. Fera & Prisoner's Revenge T2 REMAKE - by Preno

...well, a
conversion to be more accurate. These are two old classic TDP levels. I found them almost finished lying on my harddisk (they haven't been touched for almost a year!), so I thought "why don't I finish them off and release on Christmas". So I did a here they are. ;)
I've made some minor changes to them but otherwise they're almost identical. And
don't ask me why I chose these two, I can't remember :p. Probably because they were among the first few I've ever played...
BUT, I wasn't able to contact the authors, their email addresses are no longer valid, so I did
not get their permission - if any of you know how to contact them, please let me know. Just for your information. I'm releasing it because I can't think why they shouldn't approve it.
You can get them here:
(
http://preno-taffer.webz.cz/files/MofF_T2.zip) Monastery of St. Fera for T2
(
http://preno-taffer.webz.cz/files/prison_T2.zip) Prisoner's Revenge
Enjoy! :D
Oh, and Merry Christmas to all ye taffers here! You're a great community! :joke:

Downloading ST FERA. Why not make conversions to other missions, like Circle Of Strain and A Noble Death?

Crap. I'd love to have these at thiefmissions.com, but:
This level is (c) by Carl Ireland (4th August, 1999)
Distribution of this level is allowed as long as it is free and the package is kept intact.
You may not include this level to any map pack without my permission.
No one may edit and re-distribute this mission without my express permission.
(from Monastery of St. Fera) and:
This level is (c) by Jan Vitek 1999.
Distribution of this level is allowed as long as it is free and
the package is kept intact. You may NOT include this level to
any map pack without my permission.
(from Prisoner's Revenge). Both pretty unambiguous about this not being OK.

Whoops. I don't want to get in the middle of the law, so I'll erase the mission.

epithumia: Yeah, I figured that would be your opinion and I completely agree with it. I'll try to track them down but I just can't. I did try... I doubt they'd ever sue me for it, though...:cheeky:
[Edit]Plus, I don't claim copyright for them.
[Another edit]Cool, with some help, I found email of some guy called Carl Ireland and probably Jan Vitek's address too! Will contact them.

I have no such qualms, luckily (or unluckily), Jason :p. My view is that if the person doesn't exist anymore, or if I can't get in contact with them, I can only do what feels right to me. This doesn't include altering them slightly and putting my name on it (I'd always think that wrong ethically), but 1) the missions aren't being altered (unless Preno changed AI/brushes/ambients/objects etc.) and 2) he isn't taking credit for them (or if he is, he's a nasty taffer who ought to be blackjacked repeatedly!). I realize you want to be exempt from any legal retribution and not give anyone reason to resort to that, but I don't feel this would be the case, unless the authors are
very protective of their missions (as they should be, but I can't see why anyone wouldn't want their missions converted so
everyone can play them). Anyway, just my thoughts. Retort with legal-ese and shame me (again).
I for one congratulate you, Preno. If you can get their permission, great. But if you've gone to every length to get ahold of them short of hiring a private investigator I say that shows you made an honorable attempt. And again, you aren't altering one brush (or none even) and labelling this as your own, which would be horrible and nasty.
Cheers,
deadman.

Thanks, deadman. In fact, I did make some (very few) alterations - rain & 3 little pieces of loot in MofF and added one No kill objective to PR - but I did mention these in the readme. I can change them back if you think it's not OK. Next time, if there's any next time, I'll check with the authors at the beginning...
I understand that Jason can't put them on his website because of these obvious reasons and I don't think I would if I had such a site.
(Btw. the Jan Vitek I found seems to be another person and Carl Ireland didn't reply yet)

Hmm, the first one downloaded fine but the second mission won't. Actually, i get a 1kb Zip file. Are you sure PR link is working Preno?
Komag on 25/12/2003 at 19:57
The second link seems to be bad! I really don't think there's a problem with this at all, and I'd like to include it in the archive :)
deadman on 25/12/2003 at 20:41
For the Monestary of St. Fera, many textures seem to be missing, Preno. Sides of many brushes (and all the windows on the street) are just blue. Are you sure you included them? ;)
Again, I can understand that Jason wants to keep himself safe from any legal retributiobn, but I frankly don't see why this would be an issue with this. And whether 'illegal' or no, you aren't defacing the authors' work, have made an honorable attempt at contact, and are only taking credit for the conversion. I'd even wonder if it would hold up in court, especially since Eidos probably owns anything we do in DromEd when it comes down to it :p. Remember, they can use whatever they'd like without permission, so it seems shaky ground to begin with. But then who knows what other creative programs (meaning, something used to create) include similar fine print if we cared to read them. So I understand Jason from a legal view, but not a practical one :laff:.
I already PM'ed you about the second archive, Preno. Problems uploading?
