Paz, I actually agree with most of what you say there.
I will add that when I booted it up for the first time and hit new game - when it starts on the original graphics of Mêlée Island, I knew something special was about to happen. And I was right - music hits and the image transforms into this lush, downright beautiful scene of the island with water lapping away at the coast and the great revised theme.
Overall I'm enjoying the playthrough again - I'm taking my time though since I want to experience and find every nook and cranny in the new one.
I started playing through Tales aswell but I'm putting that on hold since I want to playthrough the original 4 again.
Oh, and for the record - I totally dug the 3rd and 4th games.
Hi I'm Guybrush Threepwood - Ghostbusting Stud.

Is the remake for PC really ~2GB in size?
thefonz on 18/7/2009 at 06:37
Not that much; about 1.2gig I think.
Paz on 18/7/2009 at 12:36
The audio folder alone is about 1gig - there's also a file called Monkey1.pak which is 1.2gig (I guess that's the artwork?)
That's about it though.
Given the size of the music/speech folder, if they decide to re-do MI2 this way it's going to be a pretty huge game. Unless they can compress stuff a bit more without compromising on audio quality.

Interesting, the XBLA version is only ~400-600MB.

I'm surprised the "Ask me about Loom" guy didn't have his sales pitch replaced with something more relevant to today, like a referral to one of LucasArt's Star Wars games.
"Loom" means precisely dick to most people these days, so while the non-deviation from the script might please the hardcore fans, I don't think they've done themselves any favours with people who might be experiencing Monkey Island for the first time.

I have noticed that sometimes I dont have music in the background in the new version, while the "old" version does - for example in the swordmakers shop...
Regardless, I fucking love replaying this. Like I said; just spending ages looking around not even furthering the game is wonderful at the moment.
And I want to play Loom now. Lets all join hands and hope that Lucasarts do this to all of their "old" games: ie: THE DIG, LOOM, MI2, Tie Fighter...not day of the tentacle and sam'max though - those games are perfect the way they are.

Remember that they've released this remake along with re-releases of Loom and other classic games, so I think plenty of newcomers to the game will at least be aware of Loom, even if they've not played it yet.

Noticed that Monkey Island SE has appeared on the iPhone app store. Wasn't tempted on 360, but now I can play MI and look cool at the same time, well...
Seriously though, interested to see how they've implemented SCUMM with the touch screen interface. Anyone picked it up?

Whaaaat? Give me five minutes
Edit: dammit, I need to clear up some space on my iPhone (it's 351Mb!). I'll get it this evening.
